"NO! I'm not going to get married at such a young age when I've not achieved anything or attached anything to my name. I refuse." Mina argues vehemently and drops her fork angrily.
"You will marry Ethan or you'll leave my house!" Larry finally speaks, listening to their arguments since without saying a word.
A look of great fear passes through Mina's face for a moment and then it's replaced with determination.
"It's well then. I'll leave so your beautiful daughter can get married to Ethan." Mina sharply says and stands up from the table. If she is not there, his precious and worthy to be protected will have no choice but to get married to Ethan and she will be able to have her freedom too.
Susan looks very scared that if Mina goes, she'll really have to marry Ethan but before she can speak, Mina has gone upstairs in anger mixed with happiness, to pack her belongings.
She is tired of them all anyway. She'll fend for herself from now on and she will do it without getting the pressure from anyone to get married and never again will she have to try to live for anyone.
While packing her bags upstairs, Mina hears a knock on her door. She hesitates before answering.
"Who is it?"
"It's Mum. Let me apologize to you."
"Come in." She says almost inaudibly, trying to be careful to not make any mistakes.
Greta comes in with a glass of some green liquid. Distrusting, she doesn't take the glass from her. "What do you want? For me to cover for your daughter again? Like I did last night?"
"Drink this. It'll rejuvenate your strength from all the hard work."
Mina eyes the glass suspiciously and takes it from her finally. She raises the cup to her lips and take a sip. It tastes funny. She returns the glass cup to Greta.
Greta smiles slyly. "You know, I was willing to keep you being my daughter until I had to. You've gone ahead and forced me to show my true colors to you."
Confused, Mina raises one eyebrow. "What did you mean?"
"Oh. You don't understand? Anyway, by the time you wake up, you'll be married to Ethan Walters. It only takes very little of that drink to make you pass out."
Mina looks angry and betrayed.
Suddenly, Mina spits out the green liquid from her mouth. She spits it out completely, grabs a bottle of water from her bedside table, uses it to rinse her mouth and poured it into the glass cup Greta is holding.
Greta only looks on, confused and surprised, unable to move or do anything.
"Well, I didn't drink it. Ever since I found out you betrayed me, you were not my mother anymore. Those words about being my mother, no thanks. No mother would force her daughter to do this unforgivable act." Mina spits out at Greta with deep hatred.
Mina grabs the little she packed out of all her things. "I took only the things I bought with my own money."
She slams the door behind her, leaving Greta inside the room to swallow her bitter words.
Susan is standing downstairs, pacing.
As soon as she sees Mina, she's surprised. "Why are you here? Where's Mum?"
Behind her, sits Larry with his eyes trained on Mina as well.
"I should not be awake right? I should already be unconscious? Well, she's upstairs. You can find her there."
"You ungrateful child. After taking care of you for twenty years, you turn around and betray us when we need you the most."
"Shut up!" Mina retorts back at Larry.
Susan takes a step back.
Larry looks like he's been hit.
Greta pauses at the top of the stairs.
"For twenty years, I slaved away for you. You fed me and took care of my education for twenty years. Yes. But for one night, I gave out my lifelong possession. The only thing that belonged to only me. And the purpose turned out to be a lie. You three, lied to me. You made me filthy. You broke those twenty years and I paid for it as well." Angrily, Mina picks up her small travel bag and yells at the three of them who are surprised by her outburst.
"We're no longer family. Don't try to find me or I will report you to the police and get a restraining order!" Mina finally yells and leaves the house, slamm
ing the door heavily behind her.
