I've read quite a few books regarding similar situations, it's as if the books I've read about have come true. Except I didn't want it to happen, sure it could be interesting if I gained the power of a god with no rival, but, I had a nice and cushy life. I wouldn't throw it away for anything.
The main problem right now would be, what would happen after the 48 hours were up, surely that thing would do something, but what it would do is what I'm not sure of.
Perhaps everyone who signed the scroll with it would get transported into an arena in a fight to the death, or a tower, or scenarios.
Hey wait, chill out on the plagiarism, you've already almost plagiarized VRO just earlier. In this downtime, I had to do something, seeing as the only physical change I saw would be my eyes. Perhaps the change that had occurred would be within, If I had a skill or innate talent ready for just this new world?
In the books, the main characters would say something like window or skills right? It wouldn't hurt to try given how bizarre all of this is.
"Window"
Nothing happened.
"Skills"
Again, nothing happened.
Nothing of the sort existed for me, what else could I do while I wait? Only 3 hours had passed since I made my choice. If "windows" or "skills" didn't exist, what about magic? Maybe I was super talented at magic.
"Fireball!"
Waving my hands like an idiot, I tried my best to conjure anything, but like earlier, nothing had happened.
So, just what new world am I in? If I need to entertain that thing, surely it's a comedy. Maybe the comedy of the situation is how powerless I am in the face of something so much stronger than I.
Chills ran down my spine as I fled for my bed.
No more thinking about all this, I think I would shrivel up and die the more I think about all this strangeness happening.
As I began to slowly accept the situation I was in, the thing appeared in front of my face.
"Stop referring to me as a "thing" you arrogant lowlife," - slowly, little by little, its raspiness was disappearing.
"I'm sorry, what should I refer to you as, or what is your name?"
"I am referred to as $%&@, there is no word of myth for your language, but my name is Shribel"
Something like that was named Shribel? What a joke.
"Don't mock me or you'll die."
What happened to privacy? Tsk, now that… Shribel… is here, perhaps the part where I become all powerful or gain an unbelievably strong skill is revealed?
"Your kind has no talent and will almost be guaranteed to die."
"Yup, as I thought, I was destined for great- wait, say what now?"
"Even a lobster would have more talent than you."
I glared at Shribel, there was no way something that I would eat would have more talent than I.
"Glare all you want, nothing will change that."
"Then, what happened to my eyes? What did you do to them?"
"You're surprisingly calm for having your eyes changed, I won't be telling you just yet, the only reason I'm here right now is to prepare you for the apocalypse that will soon ravage your world. Your world is about to explode, so in our ever so vast kindness, we have decided to save your kind if you sign the contract."
"But, you killed-."
"They were going to die anyway."
"Is it too late to-."
"Yes."
"Then, your help is worth nothing and all I can do is delay my death without the ability to fight back?"
"Your kind, so impatient. I was getting there, so we use a form of magic to sustain ourselves, it is called the Cleansing Hymn. Using energy from places doomed to die, your world for example, we harvest the water of your world, convert it into energy and are able to manipulate it to our command."
"Then you had ulterior motives, saving us wasn't actually so kind."
"However, you are unable to use Cleansing Hymn, at all."
I glared at Shribel for ignoring me.
"You can use another type of magic, Hue of the Stars."
Something I can use? Maybe it manipulates the clouds or the stars.
"You use blood, in short, you become a vampire. By having your eyes turn into an X shape and sign the scroll, it allows us to use Cleansing Hymn to convert your body into a vampire, however, you don't get stronger physically."
I couldn't believe it, it felt like my head was spinning. A vampire… A monster that sucked the blood of humans. I had turned into a monster.
"But, why can't I use Cleansing Hymn, can't you change me into I don't know, something that would help with it like you did with me into a vampire?"
"Because your kind is most compatible with a vampire, and because of this incompatibility with other magical races, you are in the most restrictive race."
"Ok, but what's different with Cleansing Hymn and Hue of the Stars?"
"Cleaning Hymn is more convenient."
"Care to elaborate?"
"When you go outside in a forest, do you just see blood on the ground?"
"No?"
"But, you can see water right?"
"Yes?"
"Great! You understand it now right? To start, you chant "Crimson Hue of mine, flood the stars and chain this world", surely you can do that?"
I nodded in grief silently as I chanted "Crimson Hue of mine, flood the stars and chain this world". Sure enough I felt something change, blood began to gather from the outside. It had better not been the blood of my fallen maid. As the blood gathered in my palm, I touched my dress before watching it vanish.
"Isn't this secretly OP?"
"No, other magic does what this does, but better"
"Why is that?"
Shribel signed, as if expecting me to understand already why. Before explaining it gave me a look that strongly resembled disappointment.
"It's because of convenience, if you had paid attention earlier, you would know that using Hue of the Stars has a considerably harder prerequisite to fulfill over Cleansing Hymn."
I didn't know what to think, in order to use magic, I had to use the blood of people, so what did it matter. I might as well not have had magic in the first place.
"The only advantage this magic has over others is that it does not require mana."
"Surely, there are other types of magic I could use right? Please tell me, Please!"
"I'm afraid not."
It's over, as quickly as my world turned upside down, it fell even further.
"The only reason I'm helping you is that the contract also requires me to help anyone who signs with me to adjust to the new world, after that…"
A devilish smile formed on Shribels face.
"You'll be on your own!"
I sunk to the ground, Shribel was like a teacher who would give a child a floatie before throwing it into the deep end after 2 minutes without the floatie.
"How is it that you can read my mind?"
"It's because of the Cleansing Hymn (and the scroll that lets me hear all your inner thoughts only for the duration of the adjustment period."
"Um, what was that last part?"
"It's none of your concern."
"How are you going to get me adjusted?"
And as quickly as I blinked, a spear was stabbed into my shoulder. I was met with the most insidious smile I could ever imagine.
I screamed and fell, the pain felt overwhelming. Am I bleeding? It hurts. My head was spinning.
"What was that for?"
As quickly as I could open my mouth, I began to throw my plushies at it.
"Use your Hue of the stars to heal yourself or die."
"Surely there is a more sensible and less crazy way to tra-"
Shribel twisted the spear inside my shoulder before colding glaring at me.
"Use it now."
"C crimson Hue of mine, f flood the s stars and chain this world"
As if instinctively, I gathered the blood back inwards or so I'd thought, it's no wonder Shribel said I had no talent, I had no idea how to do so entirely!
"You're going to die if you can't do it."
He shoved another spear in my left thigh.
I felt like I was going to pass out, someone like me who had only experienced pain in the form of falling down or paper cuts, it was too much.
I cried out in pain as another spear pierced my right thigh, I was going to die. This crazy thing from the stars who turned my life upside down.
I no longer could make out what Shribel was saying, my entire body felt as if it was weighed down by concrete. My vision began to blur and Shribel, in the corner of my vision, opened his mouth again. As if urging me to fix myself, but it seemed impossible. Yet, in this nauseating pain that strangled me, a strange warmth began to flow. Something from my chest was seeping out, I couldn't make out exactly what it was, but Shribel looked shocked.
My vision faded away and so did my consciousness.
Shribel was terrified, throughout its whole life, it had repeated the process of finding victims, presenting them a scroll and killing them to absorb their life energy. But this time, its victim was something else entirely, Shribel had become the victim for the first time and was frozen with fear. Thorns encroached upon it before seizing.
Flowers bloomed inside Shribel, panicking, it flung its tail desperately trying to escape, it chanted in a rasp but otherworldly tongue before turning into a bright blue.
However, Shribel's effort would be for naught, it felt it's mana rapidly leaving and its control over the spears had long since vanished. It would die, to a vampire girl, the weakest of all races.
Gasping and flailing, Shribel could slowly feel the energy it stole from countless other races leave it slowly, Shribel noticed something strange, the flow of energy wasn't jumping around like it normally would. It was going straight to the girl. Angered, Shribel used its teeth to bite down on the giant rose it was captured with. It couldn't feel its mouth anymore, as it flailed more, it realized its mouth was ripped away.
The giant rose sprouted thorns which stabbed away at Shribel, leaving nothing but blood in its place.
