Date [2]

Chapter 21: Date [2]

Grace sipped her wine, her calculating eyes fixed on Dylan. "You'll have semester holidays soon. I've arranged a date for you with Paige Sanders."

Dylan didn't hurry. This is how dinner usually happen at Barnett Mansion.

"Cancel it. I am already committed to someone" He said looking into the woman's eyes.

Since the time he understood why Mrs Barnett adopted him, he stopped being polite and filial. This was purely business.

Grace didn't get angry. She knew her adopted son's temper. He would always do whatever he wanted to do.

"To that orphan you are sharing a room with?"

Dylan simply maintained his cold demeanor, but he clenched his fists tightly under the table. He didn't like anyone calling Isabella an orphan. As long as he was there, she would never be an orphan.

"As expected of Mrs Barnett. You always know what's happening"

"Paige is the only heiress of the Sanders. You will benefit a lot having her by your side. This little crush of yours is not worth it."

Dylan sighed. Profit and loss again. Mrs Barnett sent him to states when he was 14 to study there. He remembered it was mainly because this Paige girl was also studying there.

He rebelled so much that the school couldn't accept him despite Grace's pressure and he studied at a different school. He wouldn't have been so far away from Isabella if not for his mother's obsession with this Paige.

"It is not always about the worth Mrs Barnett. It is about willingness." Dylan didn't want to argue further. He had perfect clarity on what he wanted. He wanted only and only Isabella by his side.

"It does sound very pleasing, romantic and inspirational. But I don't care. You WILL meet her and that's final"

Dylan and Grace coldly stared at each other.

The tension in the air was so thick that the servants cleaned up the table as quickly as possible and left the place. It was like this all the time. Grace would be fighting with either Dylan, or Dennis, or Benjamin.

"You must have mistaken me for a gentleman Mrs Barnett. This will not be my first time standing up the dates you set up."

Grace clenched her jaws hearing the rebellious man in front of her. What was the use of adopted this kid if he doesn't listen to her?

"Just a few months out of home and you have grown wings huh?" she smirked as she continued. "I have seen that girl. She is really very beautiful."

"Many men would love to have such a beautiful distraction. Accidents happen."

A cold fiery storm raged with Dylan as he heard the woman's words.

"Don't blame me if some night she cannot make it back to that tiny room from her work. Or if you find her under-"

"SHUT UP"

Grace smiled mockingly looking at the anger on Dylan's face.

"You can have as many mistresses as you want in futur-- BANG" Dylan couldn't take it anymore. The anger inside was going out of his control. And he didn't want to control it either.

He had always treated Isabella like a princess. How dare this woman reduce her to a mistress? He had flipped over the dining table so hard that every single piece of ceramic on it broke.

Her husband cheated on her and she was hurt. He gets that. But she should have divorced him if she had any self-respect. There is no need to become cruel.

Grace too got up angrily seeing this. How dare he behave like this in front her?

"Dylan. How dare you behave so rudely ..."

Dylan, though very much present there, felt himself drifting apart as something else take over him. He could hear Grace's voice, but it sounded further and further away.

Strangely, he didn't feel weird or scary at all.

Grace stopped scolding when she saw Dylan's murderous expression. His aura seemed completely different.

She stepped back as he took slow and leisure steps towards her.

"D-Dylan.. W-What's with that look? Huh? S-Stop right there." Grace was scared. No matter how cold Dylan usually was, he never had this kind of oppressive presence before. She felt even breathing was hard.

"Cancel that date right now.." His voice came out deeper than it usually was.

Grace wanted to rebuke him but her voice failed. She couldn't make a single word out of her mouth.

She couldn't even look away from his eyes. It felt as if some invisible hands held her in place.

"Don't make me repeat myself."

SLAPPP..

Dylan finally snapped back to his senses. He was stunned for a few moments. He remembered what he did just now. He actually flipped over a 10 seat mahogany wood dining table. When did he become that strong?

SLAP..

Another slap on his cheek made him aware of where he was. He finally looked at Grace. She was fuming in anger.

"How dare you behave like a rogue in front of me?" Grace was astonished for a moment at how much control and attention it took to snap out of his gaze, but then anger caught up to her.

"I will deal with you later .." She left quickly saying this. She almost thought he had a split personality. It was better to leave before he snaps out again.

Dylan stood in the huge hall alone, feeling utterly confused. He shook his head when he saw the butler coming down stairs with a huge box. Only then did he remember the actual purpose of his visit.

"Give them to me. I will throw them away." Dylan said as he took Benjamin's laptops, tabs and phones.

"Remove the TV, DVDs and all the pendrives in his room too." Dylan instructed. He must delete all the backups.

The butler heard, but the broken table in the hall was hard to ignore. "Young Master. The d-dining table?"

"Broken. Now go and get his things." Dylan repeated. The butler didn't idle this time.

Dylan left after he was sure he collected everything. He deleted all the cloud data on the way back in the cab.

He initially thought of looking for some dirt on Benjamin, but then again, a man like Benjamin wouldn't sleep without doing at least one disgusting thing every day. He could find a lot in future too.

"Sir. We have arrived" The driver's voice diverted his attention from the laptop. He looked around to see that they were already at the apartment.

"Oh. Thanks. Wait a minute." He said as he searched for his phone in his bag to pay.

He had stuffed a lot of Benjamin's stuff in his bag before, so it was bit stuffed. He finally found the phone, but then his eyes fell on the little side zip.

Paying the driver, he sat on the stairs to check the zip. He usually kept the gold coin Isabella gave him in that zip. It was a flat coin, so it shouldn't puff out like this.

He opened the zip, only to see the missing ring in his bag.

Dylan felt faint looking at the ring. Why was this here? He definitely didn't put it here. And he wasn't feeling well since he left the Barnett Mansion. A constant feeling of being hit was in his chest.

It would come and go. But it was very uncomfortable.
