Chapter 24: Future wife
[London]
"What do you want Dylan?" Isabella snapped at Dylan.
Dylan had been following her to every single in the past week. It was so frustrating that she didn't want to see his face anymore.
"Why are you shouting? I am silently doing my work. Is this how you treat customers?" Dylan retorted.
He was currently sitting in the cafe where Isabella works. Even he knew his actions were creepy, and any other girl aside from Isabella would have been scared.
But he couldn't help it. Grace has threatened to harm Isabella. He still didn't agree for the date, but he cannot let Isabella be in trouble.
Dylan smiled sheepishly and looked at the menu. "One chocolate smoothie please" He placed his order.
Isabella gritted her teeth and snatched the menu. Fine. She will talk after going home. Thinking this, she went back to her work. She stole glances at Dylan from time to time.
Thankfully, he was busy working on his projects and making money in stock market.
Dylan was currently multi-tasking. He was taking a note of everyone who walked into the cafe, but was also looking through the trends in the stock market, strategized from where to start, and was also working on his course assignments.
He already has his goal set. He was going to start a chip technology business first, then slowly expand into automobiles and other fields.
He has also set a few other very long term goals like marrying a certain green eyed girl in his mind and having kids, but they can be pondered on later.
Isabella silently packed her bag and tried her best to sneak out but Dylan noticed.
"You creepy lizard. Hmph.. Carry this." Isabella stomped her foot and threw her bag at him to carry.
Dylan slightly smiled and obediently carried her things. Isabella sighed. She cannot even scold if he behaves like this.
Reaching home, she put her phone with a thud on the dining table before looking at Dylan.
"Now tell me. Why are tagging along to every place I go?"
Dylan was about to speak when she spoke again "Nah.. Don't tell me about Grayson again.. Tell me what exactly happened."
"Nothing." Dylan continued "I just want to make sure you are safe."
"You.. Fine. Thanks. I am safe. Very safe. If something happens, you are on my emergency contacts. Will you stop following now?" Isabella tried to reason.
It might look cute to others, but it was quiet bothersome to have him everywhere she goes.
"Will you?" Isabella repeated her question again.
Dylan stood there silently without replying. Having her around was necessary for his peace of mind.
Isabella sighed understanding his silence. She put her hands on his shoulders and pushed him onto the chair.
"Just tell me why you are always around. I will stop nagging once I get the reason." She changed her tone to a more patient one.
Dylan was still not ready to talk. Actually, he knew the problem. They would share everything with each other when they were kids. But they were adults now.
And he particularly felt as if he was a failure for not bringing trouble to Isabella. Though aware that he hasn't really started a life and career yet, the oppression of the Barnett's felt suffocating.
"Tch.. Tell me. Is it Benjamin again?" Isabella asked. Dylan told her he had deleted the videos and explained what all happened.
"No."
"Then? You said nothing changed between us. Then why are you not telling me?" Isabella tried to convince him again.
And like everytime, this card worked.
"Sigh.. Fine. Listen then. Mrs Barnett said she arranged a date for me in the upcoming vacations." Dylan said as he tried to read her expressions. He wanted to see a hint of jealousy on that angelic face.
"So? Why are you stalking me?" Isabella questioned.
"I rejected." Dylan hurried, not to cause any unnecessary problems in future.
Isabella nodded and waited for him to continue.
"A-And, and she knows you are important to me. S-So she threatened using your name."
Hah.. Isabella understood why he was sticking to her. She smiled looking at his efforts.
"You.. Why didn't you tell this before? What was there to hide?"
Dylan hesitated. No one likes to admit they were weak and powerless. He was the same. And specifically not in front of the girl he likes.
"Tch.." Isabella clicked her tongue and cupped his face in her hands, forcing him to look at her.
Dylan didn't want to look into her eyes. It always scared him to think of failing to protecting her. So he closed his eyes as he replied.
"I am ashamed of how powerless and pathetic I am right now."
Isabella pursed her lips hearing what he thought. She lightly slapped his cheek, forcing him to open his eyes.
"You are not pathetic. Powerless yes. But not pathetic. And I am sure you won't be powerless for long." Isabella said confidently.
"That will not be anytime soon." Dylan mumbled. No one gains power overnight.
"It's fine. Why are you in a hurry?" Isabella said dismissively. She knew Dylan was hardworking, disciplined and ambitious. He will reach there one day.
'For you' he wanted to say, but kept mum.
Isabella narrowed her eyes seeing his mood was still low. She playfully put her hands on his shoulders and sat on the dining table.
"Sooo... Why did our Dylan reject the date?"
Dylan blushed. He remembered saying he was committed. "I-I was not interested" He said, trying his best to not sound nervous.
Isabella raised her brows and put on a thoughtful expression. "You are not interested in having a girlfriend?"
"What? - No. No.. No. I mean I want a girlfriend. I-I will only d-date my future wife."
Dylan wanted to slap himself. Why the hell was he stuttering?
On the other hand, Isabella felt it was the cutest thing Dylan had ever said. Even though he hadn't mentioned who this future wife is, her heart began to speed up as she lost herself in his eyes.
"Awww.. Who is that unlucky girl who will have to put up with you for the rest of her life?" Isabella joked.
"Cough.. You have asked too many questions for today. It's my turn now. Do you want a boyfriend?" Dylan asked in return.
"Hmph.. You are changing the topic. Tell me. Is there someone who you fancy?" Isabella wanted to know.
Dylan relaxed by now. Isabella usually messes up his head. He would need some time to get it running again.
"I will tell you when you tell me. So. Do you want a boyfriend?" Dylan pressed.
Isabella was about to jump off the dining table but Dylan stood and caged her between him and the table.
"This is unfair. I answered you. You should answer me too." Dylan persuaded.
Isabella puffed her cheeks. She wanted to leave before she starts getting all nervous and mushy.
"I am not answering. Step back.." She replied stubbornly. But Dylan was even more stubborn.
His hands on the table instantly slid to her small waist, freezing her on spot. Isabella's breathe hitched as Dylan took another step close.
"D-Dylan?" Isabella's voice came out almost like a purr. Dylan saw her green eyes slightly dilated as her breathe became uneven.
"Tell me princess." his voice felt so magnetic that every other sound in the world around was tuned out from her mind.
"W-What?" Isabella really forgot the topic of discussion.
Dylan softly smiled and gently tucked a golden strand of hair behind her ears, flushing her face red.
"Do you want a boyfriend?"
