" do you know how crystals are made?"
Cly was confused but he'd gotten used to it.
He had asked the man what all his equipment was made of.
" Yh, it's pressurised energy"
The man was still engaged with his engraving but he could somehow carry out a decent conversation with him.
" Good. Now imagine if that energy was still in a form when a whole bunch of materials are pressed together"
Cly couldn't still understand him
" I still don't get it"
" It's simple but I guess all you kids are rather dumb, I'm impressed you even ask questions, the other guy would rather just observe silently or walk away.
Everything in this world is made up of energy.
If two things are forced together, one is destroyed or both. Pressure cannot affect nothing so the crystals we use are the results of pressurised gas"
" Aren't there a lot of different gases?"
" Of course they are. But when matter is forced together for too long their original composition crumbles and all that's left is their raw form, energy. The difference between a crystal and what this steel is, is that the steel is energy compressed to the point before deconstruction with solid materials."
" So you are saying if I put constant pressure on a rock without giving it space to shatter it would become that?"
" Technically yes, but the earths pressure is of a different kind than the one you can make. It requires a whole lot of engineering to even replicate it. This material is gotten from this island. Now before you go asking stupid questions. This island is the only place with this level of purified tammed steel. I ravage the island and find compression pockets then use that to create the steel sheet."
" If it is so strong and dense how is that knife cutting it like butter?"
" That's rather simple. The knife is my best work ever. It's style isn't suited for combat so I use it only as a knife. The frame is to thin and would dent if not used properly. The spine can be adjusted though so that's not a problem. The major thing is it's blade, if you are asking how it cuts. It's made of the same material I'm working with but it has been ninety nine percent purified. It is extremely brittle and thus could crumble if used carelessly. If the material wasn't high compressed it would shatter even as I work."
" So you're saying it could be extremely useful if only it was denser?"
" Precisely"
Cly stored the information. He felt it could be useful someday.
He then looked at the man then approaches him.
" So why are you engraving with it. Emphasis on what's the purpose of engraving on the blade you are making "
The man stopped what he was doing. He was almost finished now.
He took the blade and went to the other room. He lifted a large stone bucket and placed it in the flame. He looked back at cly.
" Bring me the limestone"
Cly looked around for the stone and brought it to him.
Mr caster didn't take it but then he replied
" This steel blade has also been hammered pure, only to a lesser degree. It's density is quite remarkable yes but compared to the carapaces of the beasts that spawn in these regions, it's nothing. I intend on adding regular steel in these engravings to provide a sort of skeleton. Regular steel makes for great support material. Besides this blade is for one of the shadows "
Cly was really intrigued about the intricacies of the whole thing now.
He proceeded to ask a whole bunch of questions and then some.
It got to a point that even caster didn't want to reply anymore.
" Here." He shoved the newly made sword into cly's hand " sharpen it"
Cly spent the next few minutes sharpening it, and asking questions.
By the end of the day he had left there feeling sore and tired but he couldn't help but ignore these and contemplate what he'd learnt.
He hadn't attended school before so any sort of new knowledge was always gladly accepted. Well as far as it doesn't damage him in any way to receive it, like in other instructors classes.
' what am I even talking about! That dark b*stard doesn't teach! '
As he kept walking he started to create a weapon in his head based of what he'd learnt today.
' It should be a sword. Although it isn't the jack of all trades it is the most versatile. Hmmm. So the style, I don't know much about weapons but I think the generally used blade by combatants is a straight sword. Double edged and medium in length. Nah. A typical sword doesn't suit me. I'm obviously above average in height, especially for my age and I'm a bit skinny so I won't have the strength to use that.
Hmmm. I've got it.'
In his mind he drew a sword with a long frame but a longer than average grip.
' I figure that, I need reach but not much cause of my frame.'
His design had two edges one wider than the other. The other was so seamless thin that it couldn't be noticed. The point of the sword was rounded to one side. The blade he envisioned was overall really thin and, although he didn't know this, was not that special. His design was really close to a katana only lacking in a curve and lighter than it should be.
"Gbong!" The gong was rung.
' shit'
Whilst walking back to the dorms after eating in the dining. Nathan was accosted by one of his friends. A dwarf, Reagan.
" Hey"
Nathan was smiling as he looked at the shorter dude.
The dwarf shirked back
" Has anyone told you that you resemble jester when you smile?"
Nathan's expression quickly shifted from joyous to pretend disgust.
" Impossible. Never compare me to that heartless joke. His smile is clearly a copy of mine."
The dwarf chuckled.
Nathan's smile returned and he stopped moving.
" It's hard to find people like you. I mean dwarves are common but people that appreciate a good brief joke, are really rare."
The dwarf looked up and frowned.
" I do not appreciate, dwarf jokes."
Nathan couldn't help but laugh.
" Negativity, always cracks me up. So what did you want?"
The dwarf continued moving
" Who said I didn't just want to walk with a friend?"
Nathan was frowning now.
" I don't appreciate being called dumb"
The dwarf chuckled. Reagan didn't look it but he was really aged. It was his dwarf genes that kept him agile. He was also well known on the island. Cause thirteen people testified that he had come hear after killing an operative in another region and two dwarves in his own country. The dwarf was, is a killer. Just like soo many others on this island.
