Evangeline's feet squelched in the mud as she trudged through the dense swamp, her once-stunning dress was now clinging to her body in filthy, soggy tatters. The soft blue fabric was streaked with brown and green, and every step she took sent cold muck splashing up her delicate legs.
"This is so gross," she muttered under her breath, swatting at a cloud of buzzing insects that seemed determined to fly straight into her eyes.
"I never said it would be easy," Hadley chimed in, her voice echoing from the system.
"You didn't tell me I would be trudging through mud and violent insects," Evangeline said, pushing a thick branch out of her way. "I hate nothing more than insects."
Hadley's laughter was no help at all.
Evangeline forced herself forward, her slippered feet sinking into the muddy ground with every step. And then she let out a heavy sigh when she heard the snapping of one of the straps of her slippers.
