Chapter 3

Rosina barred the midwife's path, preventing her from transporting the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Growing concerned, the midwife attempted to explain the situation.

"Mrs. Fairclough, we were forced to conduct an emergency cesarean section due to the potential loss of the child..."

"What?" Rosina's tone escalated. "A cesarean? Vaginal delivery results in more intelligent offspring! Who authorized this procedure? Summon your superior immediately!"

I had never realized the extent of Rosina's ignorance. My feelings were in turmoil, but I wanted no involvement in this situation. My only desire was to depart.

I made a decision. Upon returning home, I would initiate divorce proceedings with Nelson and cut all connections with these shameless individuals.

I tried to slip away unnoticed.

However, Rosina caught sight of me and swiftly intercepted my retreat.

"Were you responsible for performing the cesarean on my daughter-in-law?"

I responded evenly, "The operation was carried out with the approval of the patient and her relatives. If you have concerns, address them with your son."

Rosina failed to recognize me. She resumed her tirade.

"How dare you address me in such a manner? Are you aware of my identity? Who do you think you are? You're merely a physician!"

Seizing the opportunity created by the commotion, the midwife hastily guided the newborn into the elevator. Rosina, absorbed in berating me, missed her chance to intervene.

She redirected her anger towards me.

"You're the cause of my grandson's premature birth! What kind of malevolent individual are you? Are you attempting to sabotage his prospects?"

The onlookers outside the operating room could no longer remain silent and began to interject.

"How irrational can one be? The doctor acted solely to preserve your grandson's life!"

"Indeed. Both your son and his spouse consented to the procedure. Why are you holding the doctor accountable?"

Someone discreetly began filming the incident on their mobile device.

Undeterred, Rosina continued her outburst.

"This doesn't concern you! If it's not the doctor's fault, then whose is it? My grandson wasn't due for another two months! It's all because of this incompetent practitioner!"

"You're cruel," an elderly woman chimed in. "The doctor saved your grandson's life!"

The dispute descended into pandemonium. In her fury, Rosina suddenly lunged at the elderly woman with a clenched fist.

I swiftly intervened, cautioning Rosina.

"Madam, if you persist, I'll have no choice but to summon security."

"You wouldn't dare! Go ahead and try!" Rosina bellowed, now completely out of control.

I shielded the older woman, urging her to move back.

"Please, Madam, step aside for your own protection..."

Exploiting my momentary distraction, Rosina forcefully pushed me. I lost my balance and fell hard onto the floor.

A wave of lightheadedness washed over me, followed by an acute pain in my lower abdomen.

Concerned bystanders rushed to assist me.

"Doctor, are you alright?"

I struggled to stand upright. Rosina, however, began yelling as though she were the wronged party.

"Stop feigning injury! I barely made contact with you!"
