I held my sword in front of me as I looked and waited for the Cor in the distance to draw near.
I recalled all the knowledge about combat that I gained since I woke up.
It all boiled down to two things.
Hit, and don't be hit.
All I had to do was apply those things here, and it would be done, which led me to the next problem.
I had no idea how to fight.
I hadn't actually fought a battle against anything.
I tried to come up with a plan, but without any combat experience, my mind could not come up with something good enough.
So I tried to think about what I was supposed to do.
I was told to kill the approaching Cor using only the sword in my hand.
So that limited my attacks since I couldn't use my Own or the spells I had learned, but I should be able to deal a good amount of damage with the sword.
To attack with the sword, I had to align the edge to be perpendicular to the Cor's shell for maximum damage, but some deviation in angle wouldn't take too much away from the attack.
The best part to attack was the head and neck since that was the part where the most 'Da' was gathered, but any large gashes in its body would drain it very quickly.
So that was my 'Hit' part thought about, now was left the not getting hit part.
The Cor had two large arms, so I looked at those as its way of attack.
As long as I could react when it started to swing its arms, I should be able to dodge its attacks, after that it would give me time to attack.
With this 'plan' in mind, I readied myself for the fight.
A few moments later, I jumped back to dodge a lunge by the Cor.
I did not take into account its speed, and it showed as I fell into the sand.
I got up back to my feet just in time to jump out of the way again to avoid getting crushed under its weight.
I tripped over my own feet and fell into the sand on my back.
The Cor raised its hand and slammed it down.
Without any time to think, I held up the sword horizontally to use it to block the blow.
It worked, but it sent a shock through my body and the sword left my grip, dropping on the right side of my chest.
Suddenly, the Cor flew back.
I stood up while picking up the sword and looked at Plot, who was floating in the air a dozen meters away from me.
He pointed to the Cor when he noticed my line of sight.
"Please pay attention to your opponent."
I nodded and turned back to the Cor, who was running back towards me.
I lowered my stance as I drew near, and when it was close enough, I jumped to the side, dodging the lunge.
This time I managed to keep myself on my feet and charged towards the Cor whose back was turned to me.
It turned as I neared its position and swung its left arm at me. I had slowed to dodge that and jumped to avoid the other arm, slashing at its head while doing so.
All of a sudden, its jaws snapped forward as it tried to bite me, only for its face to get cut in two.
I landed behind it and turned back immediately, preparing to dodge any attacks.
But it looked like that attack had been enough to kill it, and it dissipated shortly after.
I thought about how it had used its teeth to attack and realized every body part could be used as a weapon, no matter if it was a Cor or not.
I looked over my body and confirmed that theory.
My fingers, my palms, my wrists, forearms, elbows, shoulders, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, shins, feet, toes, and head.
I could use all of them to attack.
As I was pondering this revelation, Plot had arrived by my side.
"Would you mind if I spoke my mind?"
I looked at him and shook my head.
"Okay..."
Plot looked at the spot where the Cor had been previously.
"That fight was almost painful to watch. The only reason you managed to kill it is that you are much more durable than it, otherwise your arms would have snapped when you tried to block its punch."
"I recommend you undergo training when we return to the spirit world."
I nodded, now knowing that I needed the training after this display of my inexperience.
"Do you want to fight some more? Or shall we head back?"
"Let's head back."
I had had enough of the drab landscape.
Plot pulled out his transport and activated it, getting us back to our entry point in a matter of minutes.
I questioned why he hadn't used it while we were walking.
"The signals this thing lets out can attract some pretty powerful Cors, we can use it now because we are leaving and there won't be enough time for them to catch up."
He consulted a small disc-like device, before moving us a little distance more and pressing a button on the disc.
He put the transport away as our portal appeared a few meters from our position.
As we walked closer to the portal, the device on Plot's left sleeve let out a loud beep.
He looked at it for a moment.
"I told you, see?"
He showed me a grid that showed a red dot slowly approaching the center of the grid.
"The readings tell me that it's a stage 4, and it seems like it has picked up on our transport's energy signal and is rushing towards our position."
I looked at the screen for a moment.
"Then should we leave?"
I asked Plot, who nodded.
"Let's get out of here."
