It had been a long time since I'd left work on time, and as I exited the building, I spotted Jack waiting by his vehicle.
"I was about to give you a call," he mentioned, putting his phone away and gesturing for me to hop in.
A complimentary ride? Why refuse?
I shrugged, opened the rear door, and settled in.
As expected, Lily occupied the passenger seat, assisting Jack with his safety belt.
Once she'd finished, Jack seemed to realize something wasn't quite right.
He started to explain, but I interrupted, "I know, you're dropping her off first. Lily gets carsick, I understand. I'm okay in the back."
Jack gave me a puzzled look, about to speak, but Lily nudged him and he started the engine.
From my position in the back, I observed their teamwork, and a brief smile crossed my face before disappearing.
If you disregarded Jack's wedding band, they appeared to be a well-suited pair.
I leaned back and focused on work matters, treating Jack as if he were just another chauffeur.
