Chapter 1

It was a challenging journey that spanned three years of fertility treatments before I finally became pregnant with our child. Sadly, my husband's decision to attend to his former romantic interest, who was experiencing heart flutters, led to the termination of our fully developed baby.

He nonchalantly stated, "We can still have kids later on. I don't want to upset her." This induced abortion resulted in my complete loss of fertility.

I felt a surge of anger and bitterness towards him. His true nature had become crystal clear to me. When I initiated divorce proceedings, he became unhinged.

After three years of arduous fertility treatments, we had at last conceived our child. My spouse Luke was the most enthusiastic about becoming a parent in our family. When I informed him about unusual fetal movements and requested his company to the hospital, he declined.

I had experienced several instances of fetal movement before, and he had accompanied me to the hospital then, but nothing significant had occurred. Though he didn't verbalize it, I sensed his frustration with what he perceived as my overreaction.

"This baby is unlucky and will cause her harm. It's just fetal movement, which has happened previously without consequence."

I knew exactly who he thought would be harmed. His former flame, Nancy Xenos.

I could distinctly sense that this fetal movement was different, and I implored him to return. He eventually agreed, albeit reluctantly.

However, after waiting for five hours without his arrival, I missed the critical window to save our baby. The fetus perished in the womb, necessitating an induced abortion.

I clenched my fist so tightly it made a noise. Suppressing my rage, I dialed his number. "You promised to come back. Why did you go to her instead? I've struggled for three years, and I don't want to transition from welcoming new life to becoming a killer in these final months."

"Stop being dramatic. You always use fetal movement as an excuse to keep me away from Nancy. The baby is affecting her; she's been having heart palpitations ever since you got pregnant. How can you be so insensitive?"

My husband, the man I loved most in the world!

He sacrificed our child's life to appease that woman's superstitious beliefs!

I felt a mix of anxiety and fury, but most of all, profound disappointment in him.

"How can you be so heartless? Have you forgotten all the hardships I endured for this baby and everything you went through?" My voice quivered as my last shred of hope vanished. "You murderer! You should just die!"

The line went silent.

Enraged, I disregarded my weakened state and tracked his phone's location to confront them!

"Luke Carter! Was all the suffering during those three years of fertility treatments for nothing?"

My voice exploded with anger the moment I saw Nancy. "You made me abort our baby just to come running to this woman?!"

Indeed, my husband had rushed to Nancy's side immediately after forcing me to have an abortion, bringing her water and tending to her feet.

Nancy, who had her back to the entrance, instinctively leapt from the bed and hid behind him, whimpering as she aggravated her injury.

Luke stood up and threw the foot-washing water in my face.

"Have you lost your mind? Why are you causing a scene in the hospital?"

I couldn't dodge in time and was drenched.

He was about to berate me further but gasped in shock when he noticed my flat stomach, "Where's the baby?!"

I glared at Luke with bloodshot eyes.

I scoffed. "Baby? The baby is gone!"

Nancy gently tugged at his shirt and said, "It's all my fault. If I hadn't insisted on calling you over, Madison wouldn't have..."

He snapped back to reality and frowned at me.

"Madison! That's enough! I know it was wrong of me to force you to have an abortion, but this was my own decision and has nothing to do with Nancy. Don't take your anger out on her."

From start to finish, Luke pushed me away and shielded her behind him.

Seeing that I was still furious, and fearing I might lose control and harm Nancy, he quickly asked a nurse to remove me.

"We're still young, and we have time. Didn't the doctor previously say you're in good health? If you could get pregnant once, you can do it again. We'll have many children in the future. How about one each year?"

He rambled on, all to buy time for Nancy.

Was I truly that frightening? Was he worried that I, having just undergone an abortion, would harm his former love interest?

Yet he had killed our only child!

When I arrived home, my mother was already in the kitchen preparing some traditional dishes from her hometown.

"You're back? Madison, try this chicken soup. I've been cooking it all afternoon..."

When my mother saw my flat belly, her hands shook, and she dropped the plate.

"What happened?" She rushed over with tear-filled eyes and supported me. "Madison, you..."

I couldn't bring myself to reveal the truth to my mother.

Not just my mother, but all six members of our two families had been eagerly anticipating this baby.

Luke had completely disregarded my words.

His thoughts were consumed by Nancy.

He was truly cruel, and he genuinely loved Nancy.

I fought back the taste of blood rising in my throat, led my mother to the bedroom, and closed the door.

"I never approved of you marrying him in the first place! He has a strong and selfish personality, but you refused to see it! You've been married for five years, and it took three years of fertility treatments to conceive. Now the baby was six months along, and you had an abortion!

"He's convinced that you can't live without him!

"Would you die if you left him?

"I'm furious! You ungrateful daughter!"

Yes, he was certain that I loved him desperately.

He was sure that he was my entire world.

If I weren't an only child, my parents would have disowned me because of him.

My mother wept so hard she nearly hyperventilated.

"You must give me a definitive answer today.

"Will you divorce him or not?"
