Chapter 12

Considering various scenarios, my mother stumbled repeatedly in fear before collapsing into my embrace.

"Madison, as my sole offspring, you must take care of yourself."

I swiftly transported her to the medical center and seized the opportunity to undergo a thorough examination, fulfilling my mother's request.

Luckily, I was in good health, but my mother wasn't as fortunate.

As the surgery light dimmed, my spirit seemed to fade away with it.

A white sheet covered my mother's visage. I grasped her still-warm hand, my eyes vacant and lifeless.

She had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away.

On the day we laid my mother to rest, Luke arrived with his parents to offer condolences.

Luke appeared somber, but his parents maintained their usual haughty demeanor.

When Luke and I wed, they believed he was doing me a favor by marrying me.

Consequently, they also looked down upon my mother.

These circumstances had caused my mother considerable distress over the years.
