Chapter 64: The Unfortunate Luo Fan

A quiet area in the city of Jinling.

The whole street seems to have a gloomy feeling, especially at the end of the street, where there is a coffin shop, which makes it even more eerie.

Luo Fan arrived early that morning at the coffin shop, opened the door, cleaned, and prepared for the new day.

After graduating from university, he started working there. Every day, he did his work with great care, not daring to relax even a little.

However, his boss only saw him as cheap labor and didn't appreciate his hard work.

Fortunately, Luo Fan had an optimistic personality and didn't have many dreams.

"Wow, another busy day," sighed Luo Fan, turned on the lights, and began cleaning.

Suddenly, a strange noise was heard, and the lights that were already on suddenly went out.

Luo Fan jumped, quickly turning on the backup lamp.

Just then, the door, which was closed, suddenly opened, and the sound of footsteps slowly approaching was heard.

Luo Fan was very scared, thinking something paranormal had happened so early in the morning.

The footsteps grew closer, and after a while, a figure suddenly appeared.

"What are you doing, sir? What... what do you want to do?"

Seeing the man covered in blood, holding a corpse in his arms, Luo Fan stepped back a few steps, trembling.

The man was none other than Chen Haotian, and in his arms, he carried the lifeless body of Xue'er.

"I want the best redwood coffin," said Chen Haotian, with an impassive expression.

He couldn't take care of Xue'er while she was alive, but now that she was dead, Chen Haotian wanted to give her a proper farewell.

"This... this, sir, I... I..."

Luo Fan, terrified, couldn't speak. He didn't know whether it was due to his fear or Chen Haotian's terrifying appearance.

"Don't you have coffins here? Don't you have a decent one?"

Chen Haotian threw Luo Fan a cold glance, and upon receiving that look, Luo Fan trembled as if he had fallen into a frozen zone.

He had heard many stories about spirits, and those who worked in this line of business, in particular, were very afraid of spirits.

Luo Fan didn't know if the man in front of him was human or a ghost.

Not daring to hide anything, Luo Fan pointed to a corner and said, "That... that is our best coffin, all made of redwood."

Following Luo Fan's direction, Chen Haotian touched the redwood coffin and seemed satisfied. He thought this coffin would be suitable for Xue'er.

Without thinking any further, Chen Haotian lifted the coffin and placed it on his shoulder.

At that moment, with the coffin in one arm and Xue'er's body in the other, Chen Haotian, covered in blood and with his face disfigured, looked even more terrifying under the flickering light.

Luo Fan, trembling, hid in a corner, not daring to look at him anymore.

He didn't even know when he left.

He didn't know how much time had passed, but when he noticed everything had become silent, he dared to open his eyes.

Seeing that Chen Haotian was no longer there, Luo Fan finally sighed in relief.

"Oh no, the coffin!"

It was then that he remembered the strange man, who he didn't know if he was human or a spirit, had taken the coffin.

He quickly looked and saw that, indeed, the spot where the redwood coffin had been was now empty.

At that moment, he realized it hadn't been a dream.

"I'm finished! I'm doomed!"

"If the boss, old Zhou, finds out I've lost a coffin, he'll kill me."

"What should I do? What am I going to do?"

Luo Fan was desperate. Old Zhou was known to be stingy and miserly, valuing money above all. If he couldn't fix this, his life would be in danger.

But how was he going to fix it?

That coffin was the best in the store, worth 50,000 yuan, and he only earned 4,000 a month. He would have to live a whole year without eating or drinking to pay that amount.

Besides, he had to take care of his mother and sister, so he didn't have the money to cover the loss.

What was he going to do?

Just then, while he was thinking about what to do, someone appeared.

A man in his 40s, somewhat chubby, entered his view.

It was his boss, old Zhou.

"Little Fan, why did you arrive so early today?"

"I... I..."

Luo Fan stammered, not knowing how to respond.

He just hoped the boss wouldn't realize what had happened with the coffin. If that happened, he would still have a chance to fix the problem.

But, as often happens, what he feared most happened. When he turned around, Zhou saw that the redwood coffin, which had been in the corner, was no longer there.

"Eh, where is our most valuable coffin? Little Fan, did you sell it?"

"Wow, in just one night I wasn't here, you sold it. Great, you're getting better every day! I've decided to give you an extra reward of 100 yuan this month."

Seeing that the 50,000 yuan coffin had been sold, old Zhou was excited. It was a good profit!

Always so greedy, he gave Luo Fan a reward of 100 yuan.

"No, boss, I... I..."

"What's wrong? Don't you like the reward? Then if you sell two more today, I'll give you another 100 yuan reward. What do you think?"

"No... no, it's not that... boss, that coffin... someone took it..."

"Someone took it? What do you mean? I don't understand, say it again."

Old Zhou frowned, worried.

"It's... it's that this morning, a man, all covered in blood, with a corpse in his arms..."

Luo Fan nervously explained everything that had happened that morning.

"So, you're saying that a man covered in blood, with a corpse in his arms, took my redwood coffin right in front of you?" said old Zhou, mocking him.

"Yes... yes, that's how it happened."

"You idiot! What happened is that you, Luo Fan, secretly took my coffin and now you come here inventing this absurd story! Do you think I'm stupid?"

"Boss, I'm not making it up, it's all true."

"True? I'll kill you for this lie!"

Old Zhou picked up a wooden stick and began to beat Luo Fan.

"Boss, listen to me!"

"Listen to you, fool! I'm going to kill you!"

"Ah...!"

"My eyes! My eyes!"

Luo Fan covered his eyes and fell to the ground, lamenting. The stick from old Zhou had struck him in the eyes.
