I scanned the area, searching for Daniel, and eventually located him across the field.
As I approached, he gazed at me intently.
"It's been a while."
I gave a brief nod, not feeling up for idle chatter or reminiscing.
"You look stunning today."
His comment caught me off guard.
Due to the hectic pace of my design project, I hadn't washed my hair in days, concealed it with a cap, and wore a simple tee.
I was far from well-groomed.
Daniel, being meticulous about appearance, shouldn't have approved of my current state.
He revealed a bouquet from behind his back, seemingly bought at the field moments ago.
"Only delphiniums were available. I chose them carefully, hoping you'd appreciate them."
I accepted the flowers.
They were undeniably pretty, but not to my taste.
Much like Daniel himself - admirable, but no longer what I desired.
"Let's set a date and finalize the divorce promptly," I stated resolutely.
Daniel persisted in feigning ignorance.
