Chapter 4

I guided Adrian into the courtyard, describing our surroundings. "Adrian, see that swing? It's beautiful with the vines growing on it. And there's the diving board by the pool. Were you a frequent swimmer? You seem like you would have been."

Amanda joined in as we passed the pool. "Mr. Winslow was fond of swimming at night. He appeared composed during the day, but seemed most content in the water after dark."

Inspired by this, I had an idea. "Why don't we let his feet touch the water? We could sit him on the pool's edge."

Amanda seemed unsure. "Is the water temperature suitable for him?"

I dismissed her worry. "It's fine. His body functions normally; it's just his mind that's resting."

Though hesitant, she assisted me in positioning Adrian by the pool. I took off my shoes, dipped my feet in, and gently splashed water on his legs.

Amanda left, leaving Adrian and me alone.
