I chuckled at his reply and showed my agreement with a nod.
As I exited the building, I spotted Daniel waiting by the entrance. His eyes lit up with anticipation upon seeing me. His face was a picture of desperation, and his voice quivered with barely contained emotion.
"Lenore, you've finally come to meet me," he uttered, his voice breaking as if he'd achieved some sort of victory. "I knew you couldn't stay away from me."
I scowled, folding my arms across my chest. "What do you want?"
He carefully retrieved a bundle of photographs from a gift bag he was holding. Countless images cascaded from his grasp—snapshots of us from our early years to the present.
"Lenore," he began, his voice unsteady, "these represent all the moments we've shared throughout our lives. Look at them! We're both smiling. We were so content together back then."
