I gazed at William, feeling astonished and somewhat remorseful. "You witnessed it all?"
"Indeed."
Ethan, noticing our proximity, rose from the ground with bloodshot eyes and demanded, "Who's this guy?"
William seemed determined to antagonize him, tightening his grip around my waist. "Her... betrothed."
"Nonsense! Release her! Emma, he's not telling the truth, is he? You're just trying to make me jealous, right?"
"The nerve..." my brother's voice sounded from behind, causing Ethan to instinctively step back.
William and I turned to see my brother approaching, wielding a baseball bat.
I moved to intervene, but William guided me aside, his arm still around my waist.
"What are you doing? My brother can be merciless!"
William chuckled, "Don't fret. I'm here; he won't go too far." As he spoke, he retrieved his phone and made a brief call. "In front of Emma's family home. Send an ambulance to wait nearby."
I was dumbfounded.
