Chapter 4

Three days passed without word from Yzail. He was unreachable, completely silent. Then, unexpectedly, my phone buzzed with a notification. Yzail, who never used social media and mocked superstitions, had posted a picture of the goddess of mercy, captioned: Praying for peace and safety!

Almost instantly, his friends flooded my inbox, asking if I was alright. It was obvious he was trying to conceal his bride swap. I responded to everyone, expressing gratitude for their concern, and even liked and commented on his post, saying that sincerity yields results.

As I had anticipated, he had visited a church to pray. Like any devoted pair, he and Zolenn must have knelt together, making their vows. After donating, they took a red ribbon and a love lock.

Yzail held Zolenn close as they wrote their wishes side by side. He tied the red ribbon high on an ancient tree, and then they went to hang the love lock.
