Yzail was flustered, his words tumbling out in a frantic rush. "Lanaya, it's not what you think. Please return, alright? Come back home, and I'll clarify everything."
But what was there to clarify? Did he expect me to justify my decision to flee from the wedding? Was I supposed to explain why I left Zolenn standing there in her bridal gown and diamond ring, only to be mocked? If he had genuinely fallen for someone else, he could have simply ended our relationship. I wasn't one to cling to someone who didn't want me.
In the past, if he hadn't made that dramatic declaration at the airport, I would have kept my feelings hidden forever, content with my solitary piano playing. If not for him, I would never have associated with Zolenn at all.
