Chapter 38: The perfect dress

I grabbed a knife and tried to cut open the watermelon in my hand but Dad's thundering voice stopped me. "Mei," he called out. I waited for a moment before I turned to look at my dad. "Welcome Apa," I said and dropped the watermelon in the sink. "You are ready for dinner?" I asked rhetorically.

"What are you doing in here?" He asked me. "I am learning, going to be a wife soon and you are going to cut me off. I and my husband can't afford all the luxuries you offer me so I am learning," I said and wiped my wet hands on my apron.

"Go and get changed and come down for dinner," Dad ordered. I tried to argue but he wasn't listening, he kept staring at me with stern eyes so I removed the apron and left. "I wash only washing fruits," I whined as I walked up the stairs to my room.
