As soon as the kids were done with breakfast, I strapped the egg into a baby carrier, which it seemed to like and I got to work cleaning.
I got a broom and this is my new way of cleaning the huge mess of three kids:
Step 1: the broom.
I sweep everything on the floor into one big pile and that immediately makes my bedroom and the hallways and the kitchen look cleaner. I can stop there if I want to but not today. I need 500 points to level up to level 11 my exp and my hp each, but my MP is about the lowest it can be and everything this morning has respawned.
No matter. I will fight on.
I sweep it all into the living room. For this I don't have carpet. We pulled it out.
Step 2: put away everything in that pile.
I throw away large garbage. Paper, paper plates, I am a recycling queen
+20 hp
+20hp
+20 hp
my system tells me I'm doing good and I'm going as fast as I can.
Then I pick out all clothing and put it in the hamper. Anwan loves to dress up and people take off their shoes and socks and so it all ends up all around the house.
I put all the shoes by the door and then sweep the pile smaller.
Toys comes next. I put my boys toys to sanitize and I put them all away in the living room bin.
Yes I have a living room bin. Once it's full it goes upstairs and I put it all away. It's a lazy way but I can't be perfect.
I get 40 hp points for cleaning this way. Much less energy is wasted in reaching down and up and down and up to pick everything up, but I have to make sure to keep my broom clean.
I finish by sweeping the crumbs into the trash can. Done.
+40 exp
Floated above me.
I look around- how to finish getting my points?
I noticed as I level up my speed is able to keep up better with the respawn so that was my goal for the day.
And then the power went out.
As soon as the lights flickered, the power cut out as I began to vacuum the couch. I froze, the egg strapped to my chest wobbling slightly in its carrier.
"Oh no," I muttered. "Not now."
The kids immediately began screaming from various parts of the house. I heard them crash into the wall.
Why did they have to do that? Gaaaa!!!
The boys from their room were crying and Anwan from her room yelled, "MOM! THE TV TURNED OFF! I WAS PLAYING A GAME!"
The egg, as if feeding off the rising chaos, began to glow faintly, its humming sound quiet and calm. I used the light to go to the kids. They wondered why my baby carrier had a glowing egg in it but anyways I ignored that.
"Stay calm, I'm here." I took a deep breath. "Stay calm, everyone!" I said calmly. "This is not the end of the world! Not yet at least."
This earned a questioning look from Anwan.
"what?" I said. "Let's find some lamps." The kids followed me downstairs where I pulled out some non-electric lamps, I pulled them open and they turned on, a flame igniting instantly that lit the whole room.
Without power, the refrigerator went into backup mode, being cooled by ice. Slowly everything that mattered switched to its non-electric mode.
I wondered what caused the outage. But the egg didn't seem to want attention. the egg, pulsed innocently.
I pulled out a tablet, pushing the button and the screen lit up with energy from the bifröst, the same technology as the blade less swords that were ever popular nowadays for magic users.
Some technology was replicated by humans, electricity in this device powered by the particles of bifröst in the air. That was the same energy that was used to teleport me earlier when Loki summoned me so there was enough energy for them to each watch a movie.
I handed them each tablets and then with the kids calm I addressed the egg. "Hey did you do that? And why?"
I went to the kitchen and began preparing sandwiches for everyone's dinner. From out the window I could see that other houses were dark.
One word came to my mind: hungry.
Then as I finished making sandwiches for the kids and took a bite. I noticed my system screen had enough hp to level up and popped up with an option:
[transfer HP to Kat or proceed to level 11. Please make your choice.]
I groaned. "Really?"
I was beginning to feel like I was electronically pregnant. How do I get enough HP to feed the egg and how often will I have to? It took all of the HP I had earned the entire week and now I couldn't level up.
The kids burst into the kitchen, yelling about the power still being out and now fighting over the last fully charged tablet. The noise was deafening, and the pile of toys I had just cleaned was now mysteriously back in the middle of the floor, like some cruel, never-ending boss battle.
I slumped against the counter, the egg still glowing on my chest.
"Fine," I muttered. "You win. I'll just sit here and let the respawns take over.
The egg hummed quietly, as if it was exactly what it wanted all along.
I transferred my HP to the egg which quieted it down again as if sleeping and the power came back on.
I gave a sigh. If I couldn't clean faster then we were in for a lot more power outages. How was I supposed to keep up?
I guess I have to just get to work and try to figure out as I go how often the egg would need energy. Now I wished Michael could have a system too so we could share the responsibility.
Loki can you help a girl out? I asked the air.
But he didn't respond back to me. I sighed. Well I'll start with the dishes. I always like doing the dishes.
