Fang Yuan looked at the blurry figure that stood behind him and although he was unable to see the figure's full appearance, it was fairly obvious from the shape of its body that it was a woman.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
The woman took a few steps towards his direction and immediately, a familiar sound rang in Fang Yuan's ears.
"Is she chasing me?", Fang Yuan thought as he looked blankly at the woman that was slowly creeping closer to him.
Realizing that the woman had noticed him and there was no longer any need to keep silent, he started running again, this time using his full strength.
As he ran, Fang Yuan felt his heartbeat speed up, while the blood all over his body became cold.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
The rhythmic sound behind him continued and each tapping sound seemed to match the beating of his own heart, causing an inexplicable fear to arise in him.
Fang Yuan noticed this and forced himself to calm down, while countless thoughts went through his mind and he tried to think of ways to escape.
He didn't even consider fighting against the smiling woman.
Ignoring the fact that his current body was extremely weak, just the pair of indifferent eyes he saw in his last simulation let him know that he would never be able to match her.
Shaking his head, the first thought that Fang Yuan had was to seek help from the surrounding houses, but when he raised his head and looked around, he discovered that the houses next to him had unknowingly become very strange.
In his eyes, these buildings were no longer houses, but hungry beasts that looked ready to devour him.
His intuition warned him of danger and he understood that if he were to get close to them, his life would come to an end!
Fang Yuan didn't know the reason why, but he chose to trust his intuition for the time being.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
The sound of footsteps only served to make him even more anxious, especially when he realized that it was slowly getting louder, meaning that the woman was getting closer and closer.
He didn't dare to turn his head to look back but continued running, seemingly aimlessly.
His already weak body was slowly getting tired and as time went on, it became more and more difficult to move.
"Will I die again?", he couldn't help but think and knew that if things continued to go on like this, he was likely to soon meet his end.
However, just when he was starting to feel a little panicked, his eyes suddenly shone with a bright light.
After he turned around a corner, Fang Yuan discovered that there was a large building on the opposite side of the street that stood out in its surroundings.
This building was a temple that had obviously been abandoned, and there were many pieces of broken stones around it, as well as some strange plants that seemed to be climbing on its walls.
The moment his eyes landed on it, Fang Yuan had a hunch that this temple was the only thing that could help him get rid of his predicament.
With this in mind, he pushed his body to its limit and rushed forward with all his strength, gritting his teeth and bearing the pain in his joints and muscles.
Fang Yuan was originally a little worried that the woman would be able to catch up before he got there, but until he arrived at the temple, nothing happened.
Of course, the never-ending tapping sound let him know that the woman was still chasing after him and he had yet to escape.
Fang Yuan stepped carefully over the wild grass that grew around the temple and arrived in front of its door, only to find that it was slightly open.
Raising his tired hands with difficulty, he placed them on the door and was ready to push it open.
He was secretly a little worried, as the door was made out of stone and it should be quite heavy.
However, to his surprise, the moment his hands touched the door, it swung open and revealed the temple's dark interior.
Without any hesitation, Fang Yuan stepped inside and hurriedly closed the stone door behind him.
Just like when he was opening it, closing the door was quite easy and didn't put any strain on his body.
As soon as he stepped inside the temple, Fang Yuan felt his tense body relax and subconsciously, he leaned against the stone door.
He tried to look around, but without having the light of the moon to help him, he was unable to see anything.
He was wondering what to do, when he remembered something and his right hand reached into his coarse clothes.
From there, he took out the box of matches that he had almost forgotten about, and lit a match on fire.
The burning match spread its light and although it wasn't much, its light was just enough for Fang Yuan to see.
Similarly to the temple's exterior, its interior was also in ruins, as there was gravel, wood chips, and dust everywhere, while its walls were mottled and dirty.
However, Fang Yuan ignored these things and his attention turned to the only thing inside the temple that was still intact.
It was a stone statue that stood silently at the very center of the room and despite the fact that there were ruins everywhere, this statue was completely fine.
It was about 2 meters tall and depicted a strange creature that resembled a human, but it was obviously not.
Three human heads extended from the creature's neck and there was a different face and expression on each of these heads.
On the left, the head was of a woman with an angry expression with bloody tears flowing out of her eyes, while on the right, the head was of a man who was quite happy and had a smile that was filled with joy.
The head in the middle was the most strange, as it contained characteristics of both a woman and a man, while it had a calm, indifferent expression.
Three hands poked out of each side of this creature's torso, while there were three legs at its lower part that were supporting its weight.
The statue's appearance was already creepy enough, but the lack of light made it look even more terrifying.
Of course, Fang Yuan didn't have the time to admire it.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
The sound of footsteps reached Fang Yuan's ears and he was shocked to find that they were very loud, as if the woman was walking right next to him.
Surprisingly, in the few seconds that he had spent to light the match and look at the temple, the woman had actually managed to catch up with him.
Fang Yuan could already imagine the scene of the door opening and the woman walking in, before cutting his head with her dagger.
However, a few seconds went by and no matter how much he waited, the door never opened.
"Did she leave?", this thought popped up in his mind while he held his breath.
A few seconds later, he took a few steps to the side and arrived above a small hole in the wall in front of him.
Even though this hole was small, Fang Yuan judged that it was big enough for him to see through.
Although he knew that he shouldn't, his curiosity got the better of him once again.
Lowering his head, Fang Yuan placed his face in front of the hole and his right eye stared outside.
Through the hole, he found that there was a blurry figure standing a few meters away from the temple and was staring at it silently.
Perhaps the figure noticed his gaze, as it turned its head around and faced towards his direction.
With its movements, the red moonlight fell onto the figure's face and revealed its true appearance.
It was a familiar middle-aged woman and she still had a gentle expression and an unnaturally bright smile.
However, compared to the last time Fang Yuan saw her, there had been some fairly obvious changes.
The originally beautiful face that would have caused most people to let down their guard had now become terrifying, as its lower part was covered in a sticky, red liquid.
Slowly, a few drops of blood gathered on the woman's chin, before dripping down and falling to the ground.
