Fated by the Cards : )
Rimi stepped into her hotel room,, gently placing the kitten on her plush bed. The tiny creature immediately started playing with the blanket,, pawing at the soft folds with innocent delight.
A small smile tugged at Rimi's lips as she lay down beside her, her fingers absentmindedly stroking the kitten's fur.....
But her thoughts weren't on the kitten...
Instead, her mind wandered back to Adrian William.,,,
He looked exactly like her childhood crush—the one she had never been able to find again....
The boy who had left an imprint on her heart all those years ago. But it couldn't be possible, could it?? My childhood crush didn't come from a rich family,, unlike Adrian, who seemed to be well-established,. And yet,,, something about him felt so familiar.
Her father had tried to help her find that boy, using all his influence and resources,, but they had come up with nothing.. It was as if he had disappeared from the face of the earth. Maybe he had moved out of the country, far beyond my reach.... And if he was looking for me too… he would never find me now.
Because now, i was a different person...
I was the CEO of Me & Mirain Group, a name recognized across industries.
Yet, despite all the power and resources at my disposal,, i had failed to find him.... And that thought alone made my heart ache in a way I didn't quite understand...
Where are you?
Just then, a knock at the door pulled me out of my thoughts... I sat up and quickly smoothed my hair before walking to the door. When i opened it,, Adrian stood there, his hands in his pockets,, a relaxed smile playing on his lips..
"It's 5:20," he reminded me . "We were supposed to go for a walk,,, remember?"
"Oh!" Rimi exclaimed, suddenly remembering their plan. "I'm so sorry! Come in and wait for me for a moment."
I stepped aside,, allowing Adrian into the room. He casually took a seat on the sofa, watching as i rushed to grab her purse. Before leaving,,, she remembered the kitten's medicine and took it out...
Walking back to the bed, she picked up the kitten and carefully administered the tiny dose.. The little one squirmed at the bitter taste, immediately running to her water bowl...
Adrian chuckled as he watched the scene unfold. "She's so smart."
Rimi nodded. "Yeah,, every time I give her medicine, she rushes to drink water.. She hates it, but she knows she has to take it."
Adrian smiled, shaking his head in amusement. "Sounds just like someone else I know."
Rimi raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying I act like a kitten?"
Adrian smirked. "I'm saying you're both stubborn and adorable."
Her cheeks flushed slightly, but she quickly turned away... "Let's go for our walk," she said, avoiding his gaze.
They made their way down to the hotel's ground floor and stepped outside.. The evening air was crisp,, carrying the faint scent of the city's flowers and the distant aroma of street food...
As they walked, Rimi glanced at Adrian. "Do you live in New York?"
He shook his head.,"No, but I visit often. My uncle lives here,, and I come to see him sometimes."
She nodded, processing his words, when suddenly, Adrian reached over and carefully took the kitten from her arms. : )
Rimi was about to protest,, but to her surprise, the kitten curled up quietly in Adrian's hands.
"She likes you," Rimi observed, impressed...
Adrian gave her a teasing grin. "Maybe she can sense that I'm a good guy."
Rimi rolled her eyes playfully, but before she could respond,, something caught her attention—a young woman sitting at a small table, laying out tarot cards..
"Adrian, look over there," Rimi said excitedly. "Let's get our fortunes read!"
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "You actually believe in that?"
"Not really,, but it's fun! Like a game."
He sighed, shaking his head.. "Alright, but just so you know,, I'm only doing this for you."
Rimi beamed.. "Good! Let's go find out what fate has in store for us."
They approached the tarot reader's table and took a seat.. The woman smiled mysteriously as she gestured toward the deck of cards...
"Pick three," she instructed Rimi.
Rimi carefully selected her cards, handing them over one by one...
The tarot reader flipped them over, studying them with an enigmatic expression..
"The first card you picked is The Lovers,," she said. "It symbolizes deep connection, attraction,, and unity between two people. You will meet your true love very soon."
Rimi frowned slightly. "I'm not interested in love,," she said stubbornly.
The tarot reader only chuckled knowingly. "The universe has a way of surprising us.."
She moved on to the next card,. "The second card is The Six of Wands..
This represents triumph, victory, and public recognition.. You are on the path to success, and many people admire your achievements."
Rimi nodded. That much,, at least,, seemed accurate.
"And the last card…" The woman's expression became serious. "The Three of Swords—a symbol of heartbreak,, grief,, and betrayal."
Rimi stiffened...
The woman continued, "Your journey will lead you to your soulmate., You will achieve great success.. But someone close to you will betray you."
Rimi exhaled slowly.. "Well, that's life, isn't it? Anything is possible."
Then, she turned to Adrian. "Your turn."
Adrian hesitated but eventually selected three cards. The tarot reader turned them over one by one...
The moment she flipped the first card, she looked up,, surprised. "You also got The Lovers."
Rimi's breath caught as she turned to look at Adrian...
"You will also meet your true love soon," the reader confirmed.,,
Adrian and Rimi exchanged glances before quickly looking away...
The woman continued. "Your second card is Strength. It signifies inner courage, resilience, and the ability to overcome any obstacle."
Rimi smiled.. "That suits him perfectly."
Adrian gave her a sideways glance. "You think so?"
She nodded. "You've always seemed strong to me."
The tarot reader turned over the final card. "The Emperor—a symbol of power,, leadership, and control,,You are destined for great authority."
Rimi smirked. "Wow, Adrian.. You're going to rule the world."
Adrian smirked right back. "And you're going to meet your soulmate."
Rimi felt warmth creep up her cheeks. "Same to you."
The tarot reader watched them both with an amused smile...
Feeling suddenly flustered,, Rimi quickly stood up. "Alright! That's enough fortune-telling for today."
Adrian got up more slowly,, careful not to disturb the kitten,, who was now sleeping peacefully in his arms..
After paying the reader, they walked back to the hotel in silence... But something felt… different.
Rimi stole a glance at Adrian.. He seemed lost in thought, his brows slightly furrowed.
"What are you thinking about?" she finally asked...
Adrian looked at her for a long moment before pulling her into a sudden hug....
Rimi froze...
Her heart pounded wildly in her chest. : )
"You're such a good friend to me," Adrian murmured against her hair. "But… I want us to be more than just friends."
Rimi's breath hitched..
Had she heard him correctly??
She stepped back slightly, looking up at him. "Adrian… are you okay?"
He smiled faintly. "I just… don't want to lose you."
Her chest tightened. "You won't."
He exhaled in relief. "Good."
After a moment,, he pulled away and took her hands. "Now, go change into something comfortable. Dinner's in an hour.. And don't worry about the kitten—I'll take care of her."
Rimi nodded, still flustered, and hurried to her room..
As she changed into her nightwear,, her mind kept replaying his words.
I want us to be more than friends....
Her heart raced at the thought..
Downstairs, Lily greeted her with a teasing grin. "So… where's Adrian?"
Rimi tried to sound casual. "He has my kitten."
Lily smirked. "Sure, sure. Go get your Romeo."
And as Rimi approached Adrian at the dinner table, she couldn't help but feel that maybe… just maybe… fate was trying to tell her something...
