Glimpse Into The Future

"Hey, did ya Jake long?" Rebecca asked, yanking him down to kiss his face, then burst into laughter."Haha, I meant to say, did ya wait long, Jake?" Her real laughter sounded super sweet. It petrified him. Even if this was an obvious dream, it was prophetic, and he didn't expect this future. He? Getting kisses from the tiny ginger? Hearing her laugh like this?It was like a dream. Well, it was one."I don't know." He mumbled, unsure if he should return the kiss or not.Okay, this was the future, but how far into the future? Before or after he succeeded in his quest? Was this their date tomorrow afternoon? Next week?Even if he ran the math, the probability of landing a hottie like her would stay zero until exactly forever. He couldn't even guess.Something terrible was ought to happen, and as if on cue, the President approached."What's going on? Why are you violating school regulations?" She asked, but her tone wasn't the usual ice-cold one. No, it wasn't jealousy either. It was—fear?"Aw, ya didn't know, Kei-chan? He asked me out, isn't he cute?" Rebecca's voice was full of mockery. It made her claim even less believable. Jake wouldn't have the guts for that anyway. The oriental beauty turned so pale that he didn't think it was possible with her tanned skin before. She raised her palm like when she tried to stop Rebecca from blabbering, but her hand shook."Is that so?" He was certain now. She sounded terrified, but why? The fiery ginger didn't pay attention, she celebrated it as her greatest victory."Haha, jealous? I'll make sure we'll have a lot of unprotected sex around the school behind ya back." That sounded great, even if she only said it to annoy her, but the reaction surprised him. What he expected while awake, happened in his dream. The Shieldmage shot a swarm of icicles from her palm, and Jake's immediate response was to—What was it? The sky and the courtyard disappeared around them. The now-familiar void surrounded the school's building, and Sonokawa's attack went nowhere. Could he do that?"No!" The President screamed, falling to her knees. "I was too late. The prophecy—"She couldn't continue, the ground shook below their feet. Rebecca took a defensive stance, looking no less surprised than Jake felt. The earlier playful mood shattered."What have ya done?" The ginger asked, ready to strike. The oriental beauty shook her head."It was him, the Chosen One." She pointed a shaky finger at Jake, no longer trying to attack. "As the prophecy foretold. The Daughter of the Explorer will mark Him as Her's."Whether it made sense or not, the school started to collapse, and it wasn't even the two girl's fault this time. Jake heard the familiar howl, then a bright flash, and he woke up with a start.[Achievement: Glimpse Into The Future. You found out part of your true nature. Sorry about that. Jake sat up on his bed, panting. He felt a sharp pain in his left eye, and his vision became blurry, but it only lasted for a moment. He was still sweating though.Prophecy? Chosen One? What the fuck was that about? And did he do that? That barrier-void thing. Was that him from the start? And what did that achievement even mean?He already saw the future in his dreams. The only difference he felt was that his left eye hurt. He looked around the room, his vision less blurry now. He didn't get it.He saw his new guitar—his birthday gift from the entire family—and the old amp. Even the usual descriptions appeared, like yesterday.[Gypsum Lost Pal guitar, in perfect condition.]His character sheet didn't change. He still had his HIDDEN CLASS and the new trait at the bottom, but no explanation whatsoever. He had the six Skill Points left. He didn't dare to spend them before talking everything over with Dave. So everything else was the same as yesterday before he went to bed. That was until he saw his door swing open but didn't hear it. When he blinked and turned to see who it was, he found the door closed. That is until three seconds later."Good morn—" Katie yelled, then stopped mid-sentence. "Oh, you're already awake. That's no fun." She grinned, and like skipping through time and space she was already in his face. It seemed like she had teleported. But then she was also at the door, depending on with which eye he looked at her. His head was about to explode. He held his hands up, one palm facing the girl, the other rubbing his temple."Stop." He said, his voice firm, and his cousin obeyed. She disappeared from his left eye, teleporting back to the doorframe, where she was. "Sorry, headache. Come here."Katie seemed confused but curious at once. She approached in his right eye and was already at an arm's length in the left."Holy shit" Jake mumbled when he figured it out. It was crazy disorienting, but at the same time, a game-changer. His left eye saw about five seconds into the future. That was very different from his prophetic dreams. It was more immediate. It also had a potential use in combat. Now he only wanted to know how to turn it off before he lost his mind. Katie was patient, her curious face syncing up in both eyes. She didn't have time to braid her hair yet."You ok?" She asked, and he didn't know how to answer that. Was he okay? What could he tell about this situation? He had no answers, only questions."Yes. No. I don't know." His head almost exploded. The left eye went crazy, glitching out as it tried to display different possible futures. Everything all at once. He had to stop it."You don't look good," the girl decided and grabbed his hand. In his left eye, she disappeared, reappeared, and then ran out of his room. He grabbed her arm to keep her in one place."Sorry, I'm dizzy. Could you stand still for a second?" He asked her, running through every option on his game-interface.Earlier, he closed windows and disabled texts by blinking, but now it didn't do anything. He tried winking or keeping his left eye closed, but even below his eyelid, he saw random flashes."Why are you blinking so much?" Katie asked, her voice laced with genuine concern."I've got something in my eyes." Jake lied, his cousin staring at him from up close."Here, let me get it out." She leaned even closer. 'No thank you, I don't want to die.' Jake thought but didn't get to say it.He doubted Katie would notice anything out of the ordinary. She kept looking, alternating between his eyes, and the desynced vision got bonkers."Which one is it?" She asked, rubbing her chin. "The gray or the green one?"
