Chapter 46: Midnight Rendezvous

The clock struck midnight as Renjiro slipped out of the grand ballroom and made his way to the rooftop. The chill of the Tokyo night sent a shiver down his spine, but his mind remained sharp. Aya's voice buzzed in his ear.

"Are you sure about this, Renjiro? She might be leading you into a trap."

"I don't have a choice," he whispered, his breath visible in the frosty air. "If she works for Kazuki, she might have information we need."

Aya sighed. "I'll monitor the situation, but don't take unnecessary risks."

Renjiro reached the rooftop, his footsteps silent against the concrete. The city stretched out before him, its lights glittering like stars. Near the edge, the woman in the red gown stood, her figure illuminated by the soft glow of a nearby billboard.

"I wasn't sure you'd come," she said without turning around.

Renjiro kept his distance, his hand hovering near the concealed blade in his sleeve. "You've got my attention. Start talking."

The woman turned, her expression unreadable. "My name is Rina Nakamura. I'm not your enemy, Renjiro. I'm here to help."

"Help?" Renjiro scoffed. "You just admitted you work for Kazuki."

"I do," she admitted, her voice steady. "But not by choice. Kazuki has my family. He's forcing me to work for him, and if I disobey, they'll pay the price."

Renjiro studied her, searching for any signs of deceit. Her eyes, filled with desperation and determination, told him she was telling the truth—or at least part of it.

"Why should I trust you?" he asked, his tone cold.

Rina took a step closer, holding up a USB drive. "Because I have something Kazuki doesn't want you to see. This drive contains details about his next move. But if he finds out I gave it to you, we're both dead."

Renjiro hesitated, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He had no reason to trust her, but if the information was genuine, it could turn the tide in his favor.

"Fine," he said, taking the USB drive. "But if this is a trap, you won't live to regret it."

Rina nodded. "I understand. Just… promise me you'll help me get my family back."

Before Renjiro could respond, a sharp whistle pierced the air. He spun around just in time to see a drone hovering above them, its camera trained on the pair.

"Run!" Rina shouted, grabbing his arm.
