Why She Resisted Him

Flynn raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable.

"I went out," Flynn replied, his voice calm and even. He started towards the bedroom, intending to change out of his suit, but Noelle stepped in front of him, blocking his path.

"Out?" she repeated, her eyes narrowed. "Out where?"

"Just out," Flynn said, his voice laced with a hint of weariness. He tried to sidestep her, but she moved with him, maintaining her position.

"You did not go back to work," she said, her voice laced with suspicion and drew close to him, sniffing the air and scrunching her nose before stepping back. "And you smell like booze."

Flynn sighed, his patience wearing thin. "I went to a bar," he said, his voice flat. "Is that a crime?"

He tried to move past her again, but she blocked him once more, her eyes flashing with anger. "I saw Ma-ri," she said, her voice sharp and accusatory. "I know you were with her."
