Noel gazed at the image, still unconvinced. "You're not telling the truth," he declared. "I won't be fooled by this."
Despite the evidence before him, he continued to doubt my words.
I chuckled so intensely that my eyes welled up. "Noel, do you honestly think I'd fabricate something like this? You're not important enough for that!"
His expression darkened. After a prolonged pause, he instructed his subordinates to release me and stepped aside to make a call.
In the ensuing quiet, I clearly heard the voice on the other end.
"Indeed, Mr. Seyfertt. I regret to inform you that your wife's mother passed away several days ago."
Noel stood motionless. He remained silent for a moment before speaking in a low, almost remorseful voice.
"I... I was unaware."
"I assumed you were only upset because I took Rian on the journey. And regarding that phone call—I wasn't the one who answered. Rian said everything was alright."
