Chapter 9

I didn't even notice the time because I was so busy at the office. If Cassian hadn't approached me, I wouldn't have known it was time to go home.

"Let's go home," Cassian said seriously.

"Oh, I didn't notice the time."

"You were too focused on work that you didn't realize the time."

"Just a moment, I will turn off my computer," I replied to Cassian.

"Take your time, I'll go ahead and prepare the car. I'll just wait for you outside the building, okay?"

"You decide," I answered.

I hurriedly tidied up my desk, then got up from my swivel chair and rushed out of my own office.

I will never forget my first step into the main company of the Smiths. Who would have thought I would be married to a billionaire?

I don't know what Mr. Smith's plan is for his son, all I know is that I just granted his request. I'm wondering how he is doing?

I owe the Smiths a great deal, especially for helping my mother get the medical care she needed. Adjusting to Cassian's personality has been challenging, but I have to endure it for Mr. Smith, Cassian's father.

As I stepped out of the building, I saw Cassian's car waiting for me.

"Hop in." I couldn't miss the seriousness in Cassian's face.

I quickly got into the car, settling into the front seat. I buckled my seatbelt as Cassian started the engine.

"Are you hungry?" he asked, catching my eye.

"Not yet," I replied.

"Just let me know when you get hungry, okay?"

"Alright," I said.

To be honest, I still feel awkward around my husband, Cassian.

"Did you have a boyfriend before we got married?" Cassian's question took me by surprise, and I quickly turned my gaze away, remembering my ex-boyfriend.

"No," I answered simply. "What about you?" I asked.

"I admit, I've been with many women." Cassian answered me directly.

"It's no surprise, considering how women clearly chase after you," I replied.

A moment later, I was surprised when we stopped at a restaurant. Cassian immediately parked in a parking space, and then we both got out of his car.

I was secretly amazed by the beauty of the restaurant. It was a cozy kind of place, with a great and peaceful ambiance. It felt like a perfect romantic spot for couples like us.

"Do you like the place?" I couldn't help but be surprised by Cassian's question.

"Actually, I love the place. It's so peaceful, and the ambiance is perfect," I answered Cassian.

I just followed Cassian, and I couldn't help but feel small because every gaze in the restaurant was on Cassian and me. I couldn't escape the judgment in the eyes of some customers towards me.

"Don't mind them," Cassian commented to me.

My brow furrowed, as if I hadn't expected him to notice my reaction. "Why did you say that?" I couldn't help but ask Cassian, curious about his keen awareness.

"It's obvious from your actions," Cassian replied.

Cassian chose a seat near the window. He pulled out a chair for me, and I sat down. The waiter approached us immediately, greeted us with a smile, and handed us the menu.

"Thank you," I said to the waiter.

"You're welcome, ma'am."

I chose my order, and I was almost overwhelmed by the prices of some of the dishes in the restaurant. I almost wanted to leave and find somewhere cheaper.

I immediately told the waiter my order, as did Cassian. After we put down the menus, I heard Cassian clear his throat.

"So, how's your job as my secretary?" Cassian's serious gaze made my heart race.

"To be honest, I was nervous and a little scared at first. I thought I wouldn't be able to handle the simple tasks you gave me. But with God's help and your guidance, I managed to do it."

"Actually, I know from the beginning that you didn't like me, right?"

"Yes, it's obvious."

To be honest, I was curious, so I couldn't help but ask Cassian. "C-can I ask something?" I asked nervously.

"What is it?" I immediately noticed the serious aura around him, along with the tightening of his jaw.

"When we got married, did you leave any girlfriends behind?"

Cassian's face became even more serious at my question. "No, but why are you asking?"

"I'm just afraid that someone might suddenly show up here."

"Hmm, that's impossible. But there was one woman who caught my attention at an event that I won't forget." Cassian told me.

Upon hearing this, I suddenly remembered the first man I gave my most prized possession to.

"You like her?"

"I can't say for sure, but I admit she's been messing with my head when I'm alone."

Then I remembered I needed to get a checkup because it had been a month since my period.

"Are you okay? You look pale," Cassian said, noticing my sudden silence.

"I'm fine!" I quickly responded.

What if I'm pregnant? Could I hide it from Cassian?

"I don't think you're okay," Cassian replied, his gaze serious now.

Luckily, the waiter arrived and smilingly placed some delicious dishes in front of us. My stomach growled.

"I'm starving," I told Cassian.

"Let's eat first. After this, I need to take you to the hospital to see what's really wrong with you. You're pale."

My heart pounded. What would happen if Cassian insisted on taking me to the doctor? He'd definitely find out my true condition, and there was a chance his reputation would be ruined if he found out the child I was carrying wasn't his.

"I'm really okay, there's no need to take me to the hospital."

"I decide, and that's final. Now, eat." Cassian's tone was firm.

I couldn't focus on my food. What now? It seemed I needed Mr. Smith's help, Cassian's father.

If Cassian found out about my condition, I was sure he'd be angry or even kick me out of the Smith mansion.

Am I really pregnant? I hoped not. It wasn't the right time, especially since my mother wasn't doing well yet.
