After some translating, Simon managed to figure out that Camila was telling the truth.
With that double-checking out the way, he got out of the library by inserting the card into a slot beside the entrance, allowing a smaller door beside it to open up and get him to leave.
He quickly sped off, making sure that nobody followed him by going in circles for a while, hiding in some rubble on the street and even changing his disguise twice.
Simon had to make doubly sure, especially since Aurora was there. She was a crafty one and if started to get on his trail, she might never let him go.
Luckily, it seemed like that wouldn't be the case here.
He sighed for a little before he walked to the motel. However, when he made it to the hallway, Simon found quite a surprising sight: Aurora.
Why was she here- and why was she walking towards Helen's room? Wait and now she's knocking on it- Helen answered.
Simon hid behind a wall, using a mirror to carefully spy on the scene. He wished he got closer to hear what they were talking about, but thankfully he was skilled at reading lips
"Oh? Yes, can I help you?"
"Good Evening. My Name is Aurora. I'm a detective. May I ask you a few questions?"
"Sure thing, what do you want?"
Helen exited the room and closed the door.
"Oh, I actually just got Isekaid here. I fell from the sky and just arrived today!"
She proudly stood tall, using her ever-so-helpful powers to glow like a candle.
Aurora blinked for a few moments. "You got… isekaid here?"
Simon could tell she was confused. He did not blame her at all. Helen was a confusing girl that's for sure.
"Yeah! I was from another world, and then bam, chosen by a goddess and flung here… then tada, I am here to save your world from your evil organizations, which, well… probably harder than a demon king, but it's good enough!"
"…Uhm… alright, sure, let's go with that…" Aurora began to write in a small notebook.
"You were also seen carrying something by your back, covered in a coat, may I ask what it was?"
"Uhm… they were just… things for me to survive."
"…Can I see what you brought inside?"
"Uhm… no I know my rights! You have no warrant a,nd I uh… invoke the fifth?"
Aurora just sighed and laughed a little before flipping her notebook.
"What are you talking about? And are you sure I just get a little peek? I'm here to investigate and make sure you're not part of any gangs or suspicious activities… I could pull you down to the station and detain you as well. You're acting might suspicious young lady."
The private detective took a step towards Helen, towering over her. "Or, you could simply move aside, allow me in. I can make it worth your time~."
She then showed off a nummun, and that's when Simon stepped in.
"Sadly… you can't do any of those things, detective."
Aurora turned around to face Simon, squinting her eyes as she felt as though this man was rather familiar.
"And who are you?"
"The one she carried. She saw me passed out on the street, and being the kind, caring, and crazy young lady she was… carried me here. I thanked her and left after I woke up, but I returned because I forgot a satchel… you have no authority here; go back to sleep, gumshoe."
The private detective sighed and lowered her notebook. "I see, well then, sorry about that. The both of you have a nice day. Stay out of trouble now~."
She gave them both a coy smile before walking away, now with a new mystery in mind for later.
Once Aurora was gone, Simon carefully rushed Helen back into the room, then into the bathroom, closing the doors before sighing.
"That was a close one…"
Helen sighed in relief herself, leaning against the wall. "Man, who is she?"
"Aurora… Private Detective. I've had a few run-ins with her. She helps clean up the streets, well the best she can anyway. There are too many gangs that help make the heavy pockets of those in power."
"Man, that sucks… oh well- did you at least confirm if, like, Camila was telling the truth?"
Simon nodded. "She was. There's no doubt about it, which means in three days' time, we're going to need to meet up with her boss, the one who probably wields the power of Malkuth.
Helen grinned, cracking her knuckles. "Oh hell yeah! Major arc climax right there. I'm so ready!"
"Well, before that, we have to prepare. Make sure everything is in the right order and that we have every single advantage possible. This cannot go wrong… the only thing left to discuss is how exactly does this power stealing work?"
"Oh? I think I just, like… wear the artifact? And then… steal their power…"
An awkward silence washed over the two as Simon stared at Helen.
"You… don't know how to get the power?"
"…I know I can do it…"
He sighed and shook his head, rubbing his temples. "Good enough I guess… well, better than nothing."
"I'm sure it will all work out fine. We're the main characters after all!"
Helen jumped onto Simon's back and hugged him, while she yawned. "For now, I wanna rest. So let's just go and sleep now. We have big days ahead for us, partner."
Simon stared at a window and into the streets of Alexandra, and for a second he thought he saw Aurora staring back at him.
"…Yeah… we do."
