First Arrest.

Markus and Liam came back to the station with the thug. They took the man in for processing and the station staff took the man in for a mugshot and fingerprint scan. LT. Frank seemed to be getting off his shift, when he spotted Markus talking to a lady and writing things on a paper.

He frowned and was about to approach him when Markus raised his head and said, "Ma'am you can collect your bag from window number three."

That said he tore a slip of paper and handed it to her as he said, "In case you are required to testify in the court, your number will be used to contact you. Thank you for your cooperation and patience."

The lady shook her head and said, "Thank you for your actions. My purse contains an important document, and had you not stopped the thief, I would have landed in trouble."

Markus smiled and said goodbye. Lt. Frank saw that his attitude was purely professional, and suddenly, Liam appeared beside him and after a salute he asked, "Are you looking at the rookie hotshot, boss?"

Frank Masters raised his brow and asked, "What do you mean, rookie hotshot?"

Liam told him what happened on the patrol and Frank Master sighed, "This kid is getting action on the first day. I wonder if it is good or bad."

Liam smiled, and then said, "Well, I am going to lead him through the interrogation and charge the guy."

Frank nodded and left the building. The rest of the day was very vague, Markus took the chance to drive the patrol car around the three blocks, and he did it twice, before returning back to the resting spot and spent his entire day inside the car with his eyes closed.

In the evening, Markus went to the locker room, changed his clothes, and just when he came out of the shower, he found Ayrton outside, who was also changing his clothes. Ayrton saw Markus and his eyes almost dropped to the ground. He did not expect this guy to be so cut. Markus did not mind his gaze, he had received a lot of stares back in the academy.

He put on a black casual t-shirt, and blue denims with black shoes before hanging his badge around his neck and picked up his bag. Ayrton saw this, and said, "Markus, you are new to the team, we will go to the Bar near Wendy's. Sarge is throwing you a welcome party."

Markus nodded with a smile and tagged along with Ayrton. They reached the bar, and it was filled with officers only. On the bar, Sherly, Gemma, and Liam were sitting on high stools, and Ayrton led the young man over.

Sherly nodded to him and said, "I heard what you did in the morning, good job."

Markus thanked her lightly while she turned around and said, "Rosa, we need beer here."

The young man said, "Sergeant, can I have a Jeagerbomb instead of beer?"

The four people were shocked when they heard him, but Sherly looked at the bartender, and said, "Rosa, you heard the kid."

Rosa was the owner of this bar called Tipsy Talks, and she seemed to be in her thirties. She looked at Markus and said, "Anyone who can take a Jeagerbomb is not a kid, Sherly."

She made the drink and handed it to Markus. The young man thanked her and picked up the glass, they all cheered and Sherly said, "To the new rookie who made his first arrest on the first day."

Markus raised the glass slightly higher as a gesture and chugged down the drink. His physical stats were higher than average people by three points and his tolerance was ahead of them. His move shocked the people, but he was okay. After finishing his drink, he looked at Sherly and said, "Sergeant, am I allowed to leave?"

Liam cut in and asked, "What's the hurry?"

The other three also had the same question, Gemma said, "You can take the morning off, from tomorrow we all are on the night shift."

Markus wanted to say that he wanted to go home and explore what 1/10 signified. It was the fraction that he saw after completing the arrest in the morning. However, he replied, "It's not about the shift, I have to feed my cat."

Gemma looked at his sincere gaze and made a cooing sound. Sherly nodded and said, "Where do you put up?"

Markus replied, "Bank Street, Highball 51."

Sherly nodded and said, "Wait till I finish my drink and then I will drop you."

Markus was confused and Ayrton said, "She lives there."

The young man nodded and sat down on the side quietly, observing the place. The pub had dim lights and there was soft music in the back while the people were relaxing. Some senior officers were playing on the pool table.

Markus asked internally, 'System, what does 1/10 signify?'

'Ping: The number of cases you have solved. You need nine more to earn a reward.'

After that he went back to his observation and he found one guy, who was sitting alone, smoking a cigarette.

Markus raised his head and asked in a low voice, "Who is that?"

Ayrton looked over his shoulder and replied in an equally low voice, "That's Edris, Senior Detective Homicide. Why do you ask?"

Markus replied calmly, "He is sitting alone, his body looks tired but his eyes are sharp, flickering as if he is thinking about something. I happened to come across him in the morning, and well, it was a bit of a stern interaction."

The others caught this whisper and Sherly said, "Good observation, you better stay away from him. Edris works alone and he hunts murderers. In the past one year, he has taken down twenty killers and three of them were shot dead."

Markus frowned and then nodded, he had no intention of reaching out for more than what he could handle. Sherly finished her drink and said goodbye to the team.

Markus followed her with his bag, and they came to the parking outside the pub, and Sherly said, "Markus, drive."

The young man did not question and took the keys. It was a conventional sedan car, and he placed his bag in the back, before they got in. He asked, "Where do you live, Ma'am, I will drop you first and then walk home."

Sherly replied, "Bank Street, Highball 51."

Markus was surprised as he did not realize that when Ayrton said, 'she lives there' he meant literally lives there and Sherly said, "Don't be surprised, that's where the government allots us accommodation."

The young man turned the key, and put the vehicle in gear before driving out. His speed was under limit and the ride was smooth. Sherly leaned back in the seat and asked, "You did a good job in the morning, but next time do not try to get close to the culprit. If he had a knife you could have gotten injured."

The young man smiled and replied, "Had I tased him, the man would have put up a human rights complaint. He didn't have a weapon and his back was facing me, so it was fine."

Sherly looked at the guy and nodded. She said, "Good, I thought you would need baby sitting and some lessons, but it seems to me that you have done your homework."

Markus smiled, and said, "I want to be a cop that makes the criminals shiver, and for that, I need to do all the homework. It should not be my mistake that allows a scumbag to roam free after being arrested."

Sherly nodded, and then Markus's phone rang. The young man checked who was calling, and smiled. He asked Sherly, "May I?"

Sherly nodded, and Markus directly put the phone on speaker, as he said, "What's up geek?"

An excited and hoarse voice sounded from the other side, "Bones, you won't fucking believe who I saw today."

Markus asked, "You also won't believe what happened with me today as well, Lauren."

Lauren paused and said, "I will go first, or you will ruin it."

Markus chuckled and said, "Go ahead."

Lauren replied, "I worked on a report with the senior doctor and determined the cause of death."

Markus sighed and said, "I made my first arrest. Big day for Team Nerds."

Lauren went silent and said, "I knew you will ruin it, you fucker, this is why you are single. You should have praised me a bit."

Markus replied, "Lauren Lumen, do you hear yourself? I know that you can do way better than just working on a report. Why should I praise you for a minor task which is obvious?"

Lauren took a deep breath and said, "Good cover, well, how is your team? Are there any macho men?"

Markus replied, "Why would I check out men?"

Lauren replied in a matter of fact tone, "For me?"

The young man retorted, "I did not join the force to be your concierge. Find one for yourself."

The girl chuckled, and remarked, "You did check out the girls, or did you not? Sometimes I wonder if the rumor from back then is true?"

Markus asked curiously, "What rumor?"

Lauren replied calmly, "That you are an alien robot, made for work and work only."

Markus and Lauren cooked each other for a few minutes, before the girl said, "I am going to sleep, I have work in the morning, and give my love to Maya."

Markus replied, "Will do, chat later."

The call was disconnected. Sherly looked at him, and asked, "Why did you put it on speaker?"

She did not expect him to do that, and the young man replied, "It is a traffic offense to use your phone while driving."

The lady shook her head and said, "Who is Maya?"

"My Cat." said Markus as they drove under the street lights.

The first day at work came to an end, and Markus was slowly getting in the groove.
