Boardroom Rivalries

Chapter 6: Boardroom Rivalries

The boardroom of Wright Enterprises hummed with muted conversations and the shuffle of papers as the senior executives settled into their seats. At the far end of the table sat Adrian Wright his fingers drumming a rhythm of impatience against the polished mahogany. His sharp suit was immaculate, but his eyes betrayed the irritation simmering beneath his composed facade.

Ethan Wright entered just as the last murmurs faded. He nodded politely to the gathered members, ignoring the brief but pointed glance Adrian shot his way. Taking his seat, Ethan adjusted his tie and leaned back, exuding calm confidence.

Richard Wright strode in moments later, commanding the room's attention. His authoritative presence silenced the remaining whispers as he took his place at the head of the table.

"We have several pressing matters to address," Richard began, his tone clipped and deliberate. "But first, I want to speak to the lingering questions about the CEO inauguration."

Ethan straightened slightly in his chair, his expression composed but attentive. Across the table, Adrian's lips curled into a faint smirk, as though anticipating the news.

Richard's gaze swept across the room, ensuring he had everyone's attention. "In light of the... disruption at the gala, I've decided to postpone Ethan's official inauguration as CEO."

The air in the room seemed to thicken. Ethan's jaw tightened, though he remained silent, his posture unyielding. Adrian, however, didn't bother to hide his satisfaction.

"A prudent decision, Father," Adrian said smoothly, his voice laced with mock concern. "After all, the image of Wright Enterprises is paramount. A mishap like that could undermine confidence in the company's leadership."

Ethan's eyes narrowed, but he kept his composure. "I understand the reasoning, and I agree. The inauguration should reflect the future of this company without distractions from past events. We'll ensure the next event meets those standards."

Adrian chuckled softly, leaning forward with an exaggerated air of sympathy. "It's admirable how optimistic you are, Ethan. But the corporate world is... less forgiving. Ambition without experience can be a dangerous combination."

Ethan met his brother's gaze without flinching, his voice calm but firm. "Experience is important, Adrian. But leadership is about results, and I've delivered consistently. That's what matters."

The tension between the brothers was palpable, drawing uneasy glances from the other board members. Richard's sharp voice cut through the growing friction.

"Enough," he said, his tone brooking no argument. "This isn't the time or place for personal rivalries. Wright Enterprises has weathered challenges before, and we will do so again."

He turned his attention to the rest of the board. "The inauguration will happen, but at a later date. For now, Ethan will continue to oversee major operations under my supervision. This delay is about preserving our company's reputation—not a reflection of his ability to lead."

Adrian's satisfaction dimmed, but he quickly masked it with a faint nod. Ethan, meanwhile, gave his father a curt nod of acknowledgment, though a spark of determination glinted in his eyes.

As the meeting continued, the undercurrents of rivalry and ambition simmered beneath the surface, a silent battle between the Wright brothers for control of the empire they both claimed to deserve.
