Venomcoil Tarantula

When finally the class was over, Theo bid the tutor farewell.

"Sigh… he was more excited about my affinity than even me," Theo stated, sighing.

"Your affinity is this amazing, young master," Clara said with confidence, and all Theo could do was smile at her.

'Until I can find what I can do with it, it's useless' He thought. It was the truth, no matter how good an affinity was, if he could not find what was good about it, then it becomes useless.

"Clara, can you get me an affinity orb?" he asked.

In the tutoring session, he finally learned how to determine the affinity of beasts. It was a simple tool made by a master crafter that reacted to the affinity of beasts. For some reason, however, it could not identify the affinity of a human.

"Right away, young master." Clara gave him a bow and left to fetch the affinity orb.

"I will be in my room," Theo stated aloud to Clara and began moving back.

Everyone in the Barony was very busy these days, even his mother, who would always check up on him, didn't come.

Yet Theo was accustomed to it. Times like this were more frequent than usual, as his mother, the Baroness, had the whole Barony to look after while his father was away on his duties.

His siblings were also very self-centered. Most of the time, they wouldn't see each other for days, if not months.

Yet that made meeting each other a special thing to look forward to.

He made his way to his room and went directly to the terrarium room, contemplating his next steps.

'Just wait a little longer… I will know what you have soon enough,' Theo thought as he looked at his beloved beings that he had been taking care of for some time now.

The iron mantis was in its own world, so Theo went to another of his good insects.

Inside one of the translucent boxes was a fiery red-colored scorpion with somewhat glowing claws. Its tail had a pointy needle that curved forward, and Theo could see a small drip of venom on it.

Theo opened the lid of the box and placed his hand on the surface inside. The scorpion was close and didn't move for some time.

Yet soon enough, it started moving with its multiple legs and slowly crawled onto Theo's hand.

Theo brought it out of the box and carried it to the big terrarium, which almost all his dear insects loved, except for those fated to be food.

The scorpion flinched while entering yet stayed calmer than the iron mantis. Its demeanor was far calmer than any of his other insects, and Theo liked this quality a lot.

"Alright, have a great hunt, Scorpy," He muttered and placed his hand down. The scorpion slowly climbed off his hand and went directly to the front.

"Your usual cave spot, huh…" Theo couldn't help but have a bittersweet smile while looking at the insect enter the small cave entrance.

The Embersting Scorpion was a prospective insect to tame for Theo if only it weren't blind.

The scorpion liked being in the dark, particularly the small cave system Theo had created in his big terrarium.

Theo knew that once the scorpion went inside, there was no way of finding it for days.

Yet Theo also knew that, for some strange reason, the scorpion preferred being in the translucent small box rather than in the big terrarium. After it was done hunting, it always came back out in a few days.

Theo went to his next insect with a chilly smile. It was one of the insects that he found unsettling.

It was a big spider with a green-tinted furry body. Its venom sacs were visible near its fangs.

Inside the small box were numerous strands of web coated with a greenish glue-like substance.

Theo opened the lid of the box and saw the tarantula slowly getting up with the help of its web. Theo hadn't placed his hand near it yet.

The spider seemed to face toward the big terrarium after coming to the bore of the opening, then shifted its many eyes and body toward Theo.

It lifted its front legs and flailed them toward Theo.

Theo finally moved his hand toward the big spider, and soon enough, it crawled onto his hand, seemingly looking at Theo intently.

Theo was not an insect lover. It was only because of his curse that he got involved with so many of them.

Even though he had grown accustomed to almost all the insects in that room, this spider was the one he still struggled with.

Every time its furry body moved on his hand, a shiver ran through his spine instinctively.

Yet, after getting it on his hand, Theo looked at it with a warm smile. The spider had been nothing but welcoming the entire time it had been with him.

It was never aggressive toward him, and it had never bitten him with its venom. However, every single strand of web around the big terrarium and the small box was laced with a potent greenish venom that matched the creature's fur color. So he had to be careful about that.

Theo moved toward the terrarium, and as he passed the rune, the spider's whole body flinched.

He quickly placed his hand on the ground for the spider to move, and when it did, the spider tapped its front legs multiple times at Theo's hand as if saying goodbye before heading off to hunt.

'The one I'm most scared of seems to be the most comfortable with me huh…'

Theo sighed and turned toward the last two boxes. There was no way he could send those insects into the terrarium while two of his main ones were already inside. The iron mantis had been staring at him for some time now, seemingly annoyed that Theo was shifting everyone but him into the hunting area.

Yet Theo didn't notice this. He opened a relatively smaller box where many small insects were crawling around, then went to another translucent one.

His grin widened while looking at this one, which was one of his favorites.
