The notification on my phone vibrated again, pulling me from my thoughts. "Hi," I typed back, "I'm doing well. About to head to a friend's wedding actually."
Her reply was simple, "Oh ok." Just that. And then it hit me. Why not invite her? It would be a perfect opportunity to actually spend time with her, beyond the usual hero school banter and the occasional team-up. Maybe, just maybe, this could lead to something more. A small smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.
"Hey, would you want to come to the wedding with me?" I texted her, trying to sound casual. A beat later her reply came, "How would we get there?"
A smirk bloomed on my face. Of course, she'd ask that. "Give me ten minutes. Be ready and wear something fancy," I texted back. "Ok," was her quick reply, followed by a small heart emoji. I just smiled.
I tossed my phone onto my bed and quickly changed into a sleek black tux. I headed downstairs and found Izuku, diligently working on his hero notebook. "Hey, can you cover for me for a bit?" I asked, "I need to go out. I'll be back later."
He looked up, a little surprised. "Yeah, sure, Anos. Where are you going?" But, ever used to my random outings, he didn't press further.
With a nod, I was out the door and shooting into the sky. My vision was a blur of speed, the city lights flashing beneath me as I soared towards the Yaoyorozu estate. I landed gently on the balcony, finding Momo already waiting. Her red and white gown shimmered under the evening light, her dark hair straight and falling down her back. She looked absolutely stunning.
"Wow," I breathed out, completely honest. "You look amazing, Momo."
Her cheeks flushed a delicate pink as she smiled, "You look quite handsome yourself, Anos."
"Ready?" I asked, stepping closer.
"Yes, but..." she glanced at the railing, "How exactly are we getting there?"
The smirk returned. I took her hand, the touch sending a pleasant jolt through me. "Like this." Before she could question it, I had swept her into my arms, and with a powerful push, we were airborne.
The wind rushed past us as I carried her towards the wedding venue. She held on tight, a mix of surprise and excitement in her face.
We landed smoothly near a side entrance. I spotted a "Peter Parker - Groom" sign on a dressing room door, and another labeled "Amy Watson - Bride" across the hall. I turned to Momo. "Why don't you go see if Amy's ready? I'll check on Peter."
She nodded and headed to her friend as I made my way towards Peter's room. I found him pacing nervously, his suit immaculate but his brow furrowed with worry.
"Hey, man," I said, stepping in, "Everything okay?"
He let out a relieved sigh. "Anos, thank god you're here. I'm a mess. So nervous." He ran a hand through his hair. "And to be honest, my family and friends... they hate the fact that I'm marrying Amy, they said she wouldn't be a good match for me. It's been a lot. I called you because... well, you're one of the only true friends I have."
I clapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, I always have your back, Peter. No matter what. You're marrying the woman you love. That's all that matters. Forget about anyone who doesn't see that."
A genuine smile bloomed on his face. "Thanks, man, I really needed to hear that."
Just then, the music began to play, and a hush fell over the area. Moments later, Momo and Amy walked down the aisle, looking radiant. I stood beside Peter, trying to keep my own smile from trembling, watching as the woman I was slowly falling for was walking down the isle with my bestfriend soon to be wife.
The ceremony was beautiful, heartfelt, filled with laughter and tears. I watched my best friend get married and couldn't have been happier for him. After the vows were exchanged, we moved to a buffet-style reception. There was dancing and good food, the energy was infectious, which was probably due to my power. I found myself spending most of the evening with Peter and Amy, Momo staying by my side.
Later in the evening, Peter pulled me aside, a knowing grin on his face. "So," he started, playfully nudging me, "You and Momo, huh? Are you waiting for her to make the first move?"
"What are you talking about?" I tried to play it cool, but I knew the flush rising on my cheeks was giving me away.
He chuckled. "Don't even try to play it off, my spidey senses were tingling throughout the day. It's obvious, dude. You're smitten. You're not as cold as you think you are."
I sighed, giving up trying to deny it. "Okay, fine. Maybe... maybe I'm starting to fall for her a little bit." It was more than a little, but I wasn't ready to admit how much. And then it hit me. I was falling for her.
