Chapter 2

Cami gasped, her breath quickening as she stared at me in shock. "They know what I did." "Oh my gosh, they found out what I did."

I slowly got up from the sofa, feeling my heart pounding in my chest.

"Hey, take it easy." "Nobody really knows what went down." I said to her, hoping to calm both her and myself down.

Oh no! I wonder who's at the door?

Another knock made Cami scream and curl up in the corner of the cream sofa she was sitting on.

"Hey, quiet down." I am just going to see who it is. "Just hang tight, okay? No need to shout or say anything!" I whispered and yelled at her.

I made my way to the door, taking a deep breath as I went. Just take a deep breath, Nala. Everything's going to be okay.

I nervously peeked through the peephole, feeling my stomach twist with anticipation. I could not help but laugh when I saw my sour-faced next-door neighbor looking really irritated.

I opened the door just a bit. "What is up, Mrs. McClusky?"

"Hey, that little pest of yours keeps stomping all over my flowers! Can you please keep it inside your house?" She growled, almost tossing Misty, our cat, right at me.

"I get it, but it's a cat."

"Hey, just put a leash on it."

"Look, it is a cat!"

Mrs. McClusky let out a few choice words, shot a glare at both me and Misty, and then marched off in a huff.

"You know, when you really think about it, it's kind of a compliment." She absolutely loves your flowers! I called out to Mrs. McClusky, and she responded by giving me the finger.

"Hey Misty, why do you keep heading over to her garden?" She already dislikes us, and you are just making it harder. I quietly said to myself as I closed the door and locked it up.

I strolled back into the living room and passed Misty to Cami. "Oh, it was just McClusky. Misty was out in her garden again."

Cami held Misty close, her hands shaking a bit as she gently stroked her.

"Hey there!" I called out to grab Cami's attention. Everything's going to be alright. I'm going to sort this out, but I could really use your help.

Cami nodded, and I went ahead and grabbed my notebook. "So, did he have a car?"

"I do not really think that is the case."

Sure thing! So, it looks like nobody knows he showed up here. He does not own a car. I have got to jot down our next steps. Let us look for his phone and anything on him that might help us identify him. We need to clear out everything, even what you are wearing. But first, we've got to deal with his body.

I really needed a thorough plan; I just could not afford to overlook anything. This was crucial for us.

I looked over at Cami, who was trying hard not to cry, and my heart ached for what she was going through. I was feeling torn; I really wanted to be there for her, to comfort her and let her know that everything would be alright. I really wanted her to share what she's feeling and how I could help, but I knew we needed to act quickly.

So, we found a dead werewolf in our kitchen, and it was one from one of the most dangerous packs around here. He not only fit in with that pack, but Cami said he held a high rank too.

So, where did he rank in the pack?

I took my phone out of my pocket and looked up at the pack. The Alpha visiting us was named Alessandro Aristov, and he was in town for pack business. He would be heading out in about a week.

Oh no!

"Hey, Cami!" I began to speak, making an effort to keep my voice steady and calm. "What was that guy's name?"

Hey there, Harlan! He did not mention a second name; he just said he was tight with the Alpha.

I couldn't take my eyes off the picture on my phone. It showed Alpha Alessandro Aristov next to a guy who looked just like the one we found dead in our kitchen.

Hey, have you heard of Harlan Aristov? He was the cousin of the Alpha.

We are in a tough spot.

I just threw my phone aside. Oh no, oh no, oh no! "Okay, we really need to get this done quickly." Hang tight, I am just going to see if he had his phone with him.

I didn't stick around for a reply; I just dashed out of the room. We were out of time. We really need to take care of this body tonight.

As I moved closer to the body on the floor, I pressed my hand against my mouth to keep myself from getting sick. Oh man, I really should have covered up his little dick along with that not-so-great face of his.

I crouched down to where his pants were, around his ankles, and slipped my hands into the pocket. I did not find anything there, so I moved on to the other pocket. Not a thing.

As I leaned back away from the jerk, it hit me that it might be in his jacket pocket. I felt a chill run down my spine when I realized what was coming next. I needed to turn him over since the bottom of his jacket was trapped beneath him.

I squeezed my eyes shut and mustered all my strength to flip him over. That guy was really heavy, and it took me a few attempts to flip him over. I slipped my hands right into his pocket and felt something cold and rectangular. I pulled it out and pressed a button to see if it was on, and guess what? It was!

I switched off my phone, stood up, and threw it into the sink, cranking the tap all the way up. We only tossed the phone once it was totally broken.

I glanced at my hands, covered in blood, and it hit me—this was really happening. This guy hurt my little sister, and she had to defend herself and ended up killing him. Now we're in a situation where we need to bury his body.

He was the Alpha's cousin, and if we got caught, it would not just be a quick end. The Alpha would make sure to torture us first, relishing every moment before finally putting us out of our misery.

I felt like crying over the situation we found ourselves in. Seriously, how are we going to pull this off?

I wiped my hands on my jeans and turned off the tap, which had some blood splatters on it from when I turned it on. I threw my wet phone on the ground and began stomping on it, letting out all my anger and frustration. After I was sure the phone was totally wrecked and feeling a bit relieved, I headed out of the kitchen and made my way back to Cami.

Once it gets dark, we are heading over to Saddleworth Moors to bury his body. We could burn it, but that might attract too much attention. I mean, how would we explain having a bonfire in the middle of the night with just the two of us?

"I get that I said we should not go to the police, but maybe it is time we reconsider that." I have got it all covered; I can share what went down and the reasons behind my actions. They will get it.

"Hey, Cami..."

No way! Hey, check this out! We are planning to bury a body in Saddleworth Moors! "I can not let you do that, we just can't."

"Cami, can you listen to me for a second?" I said to her with conviction as I gently pushed Misty away and held her hands. "That guy was not just some high-ranking pack member; he was actually the Alpha's cousin." Hey, do you have any idea what that means? Whatever you say won't make a difference to the Alpha; he's going to kill us, but not before he puts us through some serious torture. Hey, I'm not trying to freak you out, but it's really important that you hear me out and follow my instructions. If you don't, we could be in serious trouble.

I felt this heavy guilt wash over me when I saw Cami's face. She looked so scared, and I knew I was only making things worse, but I felt like I had no other option.

"We are having his burial tonight."
