The Next Step
The stars above them flickered—unnaturally, as if some great truth had dislodged their celestial course.
Chen sat at the edge of a broken archway in the armory-ruin, a map of the known divine territories and long-lost corridors of the forgotten realms spread before him. Sarina, Mei, Ye Yue, and Lanmei were gathered close, their expressions grim and focused.
"The Nullarch didn't just break free," Sarina began, tapping a shadowed mark that pulsed faintly with black light on the map. "He disturbed the very root structure of divine law. These regions—once sealed beneath ancient prohibitions—are flickering back into existence. Territories erased from memory. We can feel them again."
"And some aren't staying quiet," Mei added, eyes narrowing as she gestured to three separate marks. "I sensed awakening relics in each of these zones. Like echoes of him—waiting."
Ye Yue folded her arms, her voice steady despite the tension in her posture. "Then the courts will act. But we can reach them first. If Nullarch meant for you to awaken something deeper, Chen… it must involve these places."
Lanmei turned toward Chen. "But you've changed too. That Soulflame—there's a layer beneath it now. The Divine Core you've been building is syncing with… something larger. A network maybe. A memory?"
Chen reached into his robes, pulling out the feather—still smoldering faintly with golden-black radiance. "This feather... I think it's a fragment of Lysaria's own divine truth. It responded to Nullarch's presence."
"Then it's a key as well," Sarina said, her voice a whisper. "A piece of her legacy—and a weapon, if we can unlock it."
Lanmei stepped closer, crouching next to Chen. "We're not alone in this. The bond we've forged—the way our flames resonate—it's growing. And with each union, each trial, we're syncing tighter into something bigger. A field of resistance. A divine constellation."
Ye Yue smiled faintly. "So that's what we are now… a constellation defying the heavens themselves."
Chen exhaled slowly, feeling the weight of the future press down—but also the warmth of those around him. His lovers, his allies, his heartbound companions.
"Then we move," he said. "We strike first, before the courts can cage this truth again."
Sarina pointed to a blighted swath of land now slowly revealing itself near the edge of the Veiled Horizon.
"A hidden shrine lies there—once part of the Court of Echoes. If a relic was sealed to keep Nullarch buried, it may be the next node in this network."
"And if the Court of Echoes still slumbers," Mei added, "we may have time."
"Or walk straight into a trap," Lanmei said grimly.
"Either way," Chen said, rising to his feet, "we walk forward."
Above them, the stars shivered again—new constellations beginning to form.
