Max broke his vow of loyalty, abandoning me and leaving me waiting. My eyes welled up with tears as I made a series of life-altering choices. There was no going back now.
"Are you certain you want to move all your funds to XXX Bank, Miss Cassie?"
"Yes, I am. And please terminate my account here."
"Are you absolutely sure about this, Miss Cassie?"
"Yes, I am."
I could detect uncertainty in her tone.
It was understandable; why would I close an account I'd held for so long and send my money abroad?
After ending the call, I contacted my assistant. "I need you to remove all records of my past."
I wanted to vanish from Max's life without a trace.
Just then, my eyes were drawn to the television. Max was being interviewed.
"What does the future hold for you, Mr. Cornell?" the host inquired.
"My future plans revolve around my wife. I want to provide her with everything and start a family once the company goes public," Max lied.
"How romantic! Everyone knows Mr. and Mrs. Cornell are the perfect match! I wish I could find such a wonderful husband."
I bit my lip, fighting back tears. My chest felt tight, and I switched off the TV.
To the world, we were the 'ideal couple' and Max was the perfect spouse. In reality, our marriage was fraught with difficulties.
As I shut my eyes, the tears I'd been holding back trickled down. My heart ached as I reflected on the past.
Our relationship had once been wonderful.
Max and I met by chance during my audition for a role. He fell for me instantly.
Despite rejecting him repeatedly, he persisted in pursuing me for years.
Eventually, I agreed to date him out of guilt. But I set a condition: if he ever cheated, I'd leave him.
However, as the years passed, he seemed to have forgotten this promise. His commitment faded along with our marriage.
I sacrificed my youth, my career, and everything for him.
And now, this 'perfect' union had reached its end.
