Chapter 8

I remained constantly at my mother's side, refusing to leave her hospital room.

Yet it wasn't just her medical state that crushed my spirit; it was the information the physicians had relayed to me - the final words she'd uttered before falling into her unresponsive state.

"She appeared distressed about some blossoms," one had mentioned softly when I inquired about the circumstances of her hospitalization.

"She expressed dissatisfaction that they were askew and requested we straighten them prior to delivery. Then she mentioned her daughter's husband was a wonderful person, just very occupied, and she wished to give her daughter a pleasant surprise with the flowers he'd requested she bring." The physician had explained.

She likely assumed the flowers were intended for me? She wanted her child to be content? She believed she was being helpful?
