While standing in front of a massive building, Cain halted to ponder about what sort of things he would do. From what he heard when registering as an official Resonator one would be investigated about background checks, given a couple of quick interviews, before entering another phase.
Cain inhaled deeply and began to move his feet forward, followed by the man who held his documents. The feeling of when Cain approached the huge door was stifling, he could hear a buzzing of activity inside, almost swallowing his mind.
He braced himself and stepped inside the interior, and true to his assumption, the place was crowded with activity, many people wearing suits walking back and forth. There are also many regular people just like him, who sit on a bench which is lined up in the middle of the room.
"You wait on the seat first, I will come to you later!".
"Ah, yes thank you for your help".
The man smiled, pleased to see Cain's behavior who still maintains his politeness. After a quick check on the document, the man left Cain's side.
Cain looked around and found himself an empty seat made from an alumunium, the cold and smooth surface of the chair that transferred to his touch, Cain took his seat and began to look around and was overwhelmed by the atmosphere.
'Woah, this is completely different from the outskirts. This place was too bright!'. Feeling out of place for arriving on a stranger land, Cain began to tensed. Luckily, his behaviour was swatted away by the others who happened to catch a glimpse of his appearance and attire.
With Cain restless behaviour people around assumed that he was from the outskirts, but regardless there was no rejection or persecution in their mind, rather they were just feeling ignorant, busy with their own business.
A few times passed, the man returned with a beautiful woman wearing formal attire that looked tight highlighting her hourglass figure. The woman happens to have a stritch personality looking at her sharp gaze and glasses.
"Mr. Cain, am I right?".
"Yes!".
Hearing her soft yet clear intonation prompting Cain's body to stiffened while standing before her. The woman observed him a couple of times, while sometimes glancing at a terminal on her hand.
'A terminal? As expected from a central city, the technologies they used were far beyond our's who live in the outskirts!'. Cain muttered while having a slight envy for the advanced technology they have.
Technologies also spread within the outskirts but it was a contrast different from the one Cain currently saw. For example, the phone he gave toward the boy the other day was just a simple tool for communication or simply sending a message to someone far beyond reach.
Then, there is a Terminal before him, a small rectangle plate of metal which not only could become a tool for communication far beyond, it could also store more data, doing tasks like noting or even capturing some memories with a camera feature in it.
"Mr. Cain, please follow me!".
"...Ah, yes!".
Cain glanced at his side toward the guard who was standing still, then giving the boy a self reassuring smile, he extended his right hand.
"It seems my duty is finished. Good luck, kid! We will await your appearance as one or own".
"Ahahaha… Thanks".
Hearing the guard's confident remark of his future, switch Cain's mood off. He answers with a stiff smile while pretending to hide it with his bitter laugh. The woman observed the two farewells with keen interest, behind those glasses what sort of thought she had, no one knows it.
Both shook hands before part ways, thus Cain began to be guided from the place garnering attention from other people for his escort was a beautiful woman. The woman ignored all the gaze and walked toward a stretched hall.
When the two stood at the corner of the room before the door, the woman entered inside and urged Cain to follow her.
"Come inside!".
Cain nodded his head before stepping inside, his body stiffened for being assaulted by a chilling temperature in the room. not only that, he could spot a flowery scent that soothed his restless heart.
The interior room was simple, inside there is a brown work desk with two chairs facing each other. On the right there is a width metal drawer painted in silver to put several papers inside.
"Please sit down!".
"Yes, thank you!".
Cain sat face to face with the woman whose name is Selena, looking at a small plate name on the desk that caught his attention. He inhaled a deep breath to calm his nerves down and began to look at Selena.
Selena who saw her partner in conversation had eased up, her lips parted and it shook Cain's to the core seeing her fleeting smile like a tip of a spring breeze, after passing through a harsh winter.
"Okay, let's begin. You can start with your background".
"Yes, My name is Cain…".
Probably it was his second interview of the day, Cain's heart was at ease and he could answer the questions fluently without any pause. He kept answering Selena's question before she leaned forward, placing her hands together to support her chin.
"Then, this is important!".
"?!".
"Why did you want to become a Resonator?".
From that question, Cain's brain halted, his mouth frozen stiff. He felt his condition was not right. It should be just a simple question, but somehow his throat refused to spill the words that stuck within it.
Selena watched the struggling kid with a warm expression as if not to rush him, letting the boy gather his own resolve before giving his answer from the bottom of his heart.
'Mm, it's strange, my dream was supposed to become a person like The Great Hero, why did I falter here, me?'. Cain lost in his own thoughts.
True that he is always talking about wanting to become a hero since he was a child and always so happy when he plays pretend with his friend. However, little by little those fragments faded, turning into a reality that he experienced earlier yesterday night.
The awakening and Noir came to his life, involved in chasing, saving a boy, griefing upon almost losing his partner, anger that sap his emotion away, and desperate to cling to life that almost slipped from his grasp within that last duel he won by luck.
All of those emotions swirl intensely within his heart, creating a whirlwind of chaotic emotion, which forming a words that slowly escapes from his lips.
"...To fight, and search for my own meaning in life, along with my lifelong partner". Cain gasped, for the sudden outburst his mouth has spewed those words. 'Yeah, I think this was enough for now!'.
For a brief moment, Selena could see a glimpse of purple flame that burned bright upon the boy's eyes. It was fleeting but it filled with resolve, or if put by another name is, the deepest part of the boy's wish.
Hidden behind the connected hands, Selena's lips parted pleasantly. She began to move her fingers and tapped the terminal in her hands, before asking a last question to finish the registration.
"May I see your Guardian? What type of Guardian you have?".
"Yes, for your second question is, I was having a Beast as Guardian and it was… Come out, Noir!".
Cain hesitated at first, but if he stopped in this place, it would take him nowhere, so he swallowed his own spit and instructed his partner to come out.
As instructed, the shadow beneath him began to wriggling, the lamp within the room flickering, creating an eerie atmosphere, which made Selena's face stiffened. But, because of her long experience in this area, she could maintain her poker face well, 'I hope it was not a spirit type Guardian'.
A mass of jet-black darkness emerged from his shadow before manifesting into a figure of a black dog, reminiscent of dark night. Selena gasped, but soon her tension gradually took a nosedive after seeing Noir race.
Seeing a bit of change of demeanor within Selena's behaviour, Cain sighed, his heart dimmed and eventually felt disappointed again toward another human, 'She is also the same like others!'. Knowing that fact is enough to make Cain's mood dampened and his demeanor change into a cold one.
Silence descended upon the room, Cain began to care about his partner who showed a bit of oblivious sign. He caressed Noir's head and jaw, playing with it for a bit, waiting for the woman to finish her thought.
Noticing that the boy's attention had gone from her side, Selena gulped her saliva while careful to not show her cold sweat to appear. She pretended to put her palm on her forehead to wipe away the sweat.
'What am I doing, Selena, you idiot! You just made the mood between us worse'. Selena cursed at herself, realized her own mistake for feeling shocked and a bit disappointed after seeing a domestic beast that came out.
In this damp and worsened mood, Selena moved her finger to finished the document registration while occasionally looking toward Cain who completely ignored her gaze. From that moment she felt the world crumble, her face also turned blue, 'You idiot woman!'.
After a few presses on her terminal, she finished with the paperwork and began to wait for it to be printed before giving it to the boy. The room atmosphere heavy, Selena couldn't help but submerged into her self-loathing.
Time passed and when Cain heard the door open, he saw a male staff holding a stack of paper approaching inside. He was surprised to see a black dog inside, which soon followed with a chuckle.
Selena's face turned aghast and a deep frown etched into her fair and beautiful face. The man looked toward Cain, giving him his business smile.
"Head Selena, I come with the paper and card for the new registered Resonator".
