Alex's anger was palpable as he glared at the person responsible for the mess. "Do you have a problem with your eyes?" he snapped.
To his surprise, the culprit was the same woman from earlier, who had seemed utterly unimpressed by him.
Nyx's face was flushed with embarrassment as she apologized profusely. "I'm so sorry, it was an accident. I'll pay for the clothing and find a way to replace the documents."
Alex's anger lingered, his tone icy. "You think you can afford to replace my clothes and sort out the documents?" he repeated, his eyes narrowing.
Nyx nodded fervently, affirming her intention. Alex's expression remained skeptical. "You can't afford to buy me the exact same clothes. It might leave you broke for a while."
Nyx knew he was right, given the luxurious car he arrived in and the admiring glances from the ladies. Yet, she felt compelled to compensate him.
"I'll accept payment for dry cleaning," Alex added, his tone still cold.
Nyx's eyes lit up with relief. "Thank you," she said, smiling.
Alex remained silent, his expression unyielding.
Undeterred, Nyx continued, "I know a dry cleaning store nearby. I can get you a more affordable pair of clothes and take these to the laundromat. I'll get them cleaned and return them to you."
Alex raised an eyebrow at Nyx's suggestion. "I have a spare pair in the car; don't waste your money. Just do the laundry and sort out the documents," he said, his tone still icy.
Nyx nodded with a smile, but as Alex walked to his car, she shot him a withering look.
Why was he still being grumpy after her apology? she wondered.
Before she could ponder further, Alex dropped the spare clothes on her head. "I'll take your phone and bag. You'll get them back once you've done everything," he said, confiscating her belongings.
Nyx's eyes widened in surprise.
Alex ignored her shocked expression. "If you need help finding me, ask my driver. He'll direct you," he said, nodding toward his driver.
With that, Alex left, leaving Nyx stunned.
She stormed to her car, dumping her belongings inside. Grabbing Alex's clothes, she headed to the laundromat, muttering under her breath, "Cocky asshole."
Nyx arrived at the laundromat, only to remember that her purse was in the bag Alex had taken. She kicked the washing machine in frustration but quickly cheered up, recalling the spare change in her pocket.
She tossed the clothes into the washing machine and sat down. Her mind began to wander to the painful memory of Tony dumping her. Nyx scoffed, stood up, and went to retrieve the clothes. She refused to let Tony ruin her mood.
After finishing at the laundromat, Nyx stepped out, pondering how to repair the damaged documents. Suddenly, she remembered that Alex still had the documents. She rushed to meet him, but the driver intercepted her.
"The boss asked me to give these to you," the driver said, handing Nyx the documents.
Nyx exhaled in relief. "Thank you," she said with a smile.
The driver nodded, smiling, and handed her the documents.
Nyx thought to herself, "At least someone who works for him is normal," as she reflected on her encounter with the driver, Aaron.
She headed back to her car with the documents and clothes, settled in, and began typing out the damaged documents on her laptop. Some parts were smudged, but she managed to decipher and rewrite them. The documents revealed an agreement between Alex and a company that had failed to pay its debts.
After finishing, Nyx searched for a store with a printer and soon found one. She paid the owner and printed out the documents.
With the printed documents in hand, Nyx returned to her car, dropped off her laptop, and arranged the papers. She then approached Aaron, who was still waiting.
"I'm done," she said. "I'd like to meet with your employer."
Aaron nodded and led her to Alex. "Boss," he called out, announcing Nyx's arrival.
Alex turned around, his eyes locking onto Nyx. Aaron bowed his head and excused himself, leaving the two alone.
Nyx handed Alex the documents and clothes, eager to conclude their encounter. Alex took the items, set the clothes aside, and reviewed the documents. He nodded, seemingly satisfied with Nyx's work.
Candice emerged from the dressing room and spotted Nyx. A sly smile spread across her face as she thought, "So this is the woman who ruined big bro's clothes and documents, the same one who seemed unimpressed by him."
Alex returned Nyx's belongings without a word, clearly uninterested in conversation. Candice hid behind the curtains, curious about what would happen next.
Nyx snatched her belongings and walked away with a sarcastic glance. "Well, that was fun," Candice said, disappointed, as she stepped out from behind the curtains.
Alex looked up from his phone, meeting his sister's gaze. "I'm done, let's leave," Candice said, already heading out.
Alex settled the bills and joined Candice in the car. "Get dressed when we get home. I have a gathering to attend," he said.
Upon arriving at their apartment, Candice looked exhausted from the shopping spree, but knew she had to accompany her brother. She headed to her room for a short rest before Alex was ready to leave.
Later, Candice refreshed herself with a shower and got dressed. She chose a simple yet elegant outfit suitable for any occasion, paired with light makeup.
Candice waited for Alex in the living room. Soon, he emerged dressed in a sleek, simple tuxedo, looking every bit the wealthy trillionaire.
Candice gazed up at her brother, admiring his outfit. "Ohh," she cooed jokingly. Alex chuckled at her reaction.
"If it isn't my wealthy trillionaire brother," Candice teased.
"And my adorable little sister," Alex replied, smiling as he took in Candice's elegant blue outfit.
The siblings shared a warm smile before heading to their sleek limousine.
Upon arriving at the party, Alex and Candice stepped out, turning heads. While the ladies fawned over Alex, one woman caught his attention. She seemed utterly uninterested in the festivities.
Isn't she going to swoon over me like the others? Alex thought, amused.
Candice noticed her brother's reaction and stifled a laugh. It was clear Alex was taken aback by the woman's indifference.
"Remember, I told you not all ladies dream of marrying you," Candice whispered, nudging her brother's elbow as they navigated the crowd.
The party was a gathering of esteemed business owners, including authors. As they mingled, Alex couldn't help but steal glances at the mysterious woman.
Alex was still seething from encountering two women who didn't fawn over him in one day. He tore his gaze away from the mysterious woman.
His friend, who had invited him to the party, approached with a smile. "Alex, I'd like you to meet Daniella Chidiebere, a renowned author. Daniella, this is Alex, the city's wealthiest entrepreneur."
Daniella extended her hand for a handshake, but Alex deliberately ignored it, snubbing her. Daniella's face fell, and she scoffed before quickly excusing herself.
Candice watched the awkward exchange, her eyes fixed on her brother's haughty behavior.
Candice tugged on Alex's clothes, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Don't tell me you snubbed her because she didn't fawn all over you?" she teased, chuckling at her brother's childish behavior.
Maxwell, Alex's friend, watched the exchange, still taken aback by Alex's actions. Candice's comment left him surprised, and Alex caught the shocked look on his friend's face.
Alex ignored Candice and Maxwell, walking away with an air of haughtiness. Candice and Maxwell burst out laughing.
The party eventually came to an end, and they returned to their apartment. Candice headed straight to her room, while Alex retired to his bedroom.
The next morning, Alex was ready for work, and Candice prepared for school. After dropping Candice off, Alex arrived at his office building. As he entered, he spotted a familiar face – one of the women from the previous day.
The mysterious woman quickly hid, and Alex didn't get a clear look at her face. Nevertheless, he was certain she was one of the two women who was seemingly unimpressed by him yesterday.
