A loud vibration cut through the quiet room.
The phone on the nearby table buzzed relentlessly, demanding attention. Aarav groaned in his sleep, burying his face deeper into the pillow.
Then, without warning—
SPLASH!
A sudden downpour of water hit Aarav straight in the face. He jolted upright, gasping.
The girl beside him stirred as cold droplets splattered onto her skin. Her eyes fluttered open, startled.
"W-what—?!" she stammered, blinking in confusion.
Aarav wiped his dripping face, coughing. His gaze snapped to the tendril retracting into his chest.
"Anahata," he said, "Is this your idea of waking someone up?"
A playful voice hummed from within. "Oh, good morning, Aarav! You see, since I lack a body, I was simply doing some morning exercises with my new tendrils. Stretching, testing functionality, that sort of thing."
Aarav sighed. "You drenched me."
"Ah, minor inconvenience. Hydration is important, after all."
The girl, still processing what had just happened, simply stared at them in disbelief.
The sudden shift in Anahata tone … it was beyond her comprehension.
The phone buzzed again. Aarav exhaled, grabbed it, and answered.
"Yeah… boss? Listen, I'm not feeling well. I won't be able to come to work today."
A gruff voice grumbled on the other end, followed by some reluctant approval. Aarav ended the call and tossed the phone aside.
"Well, since I'm already up, let's talk about something important," he said, He looked at the girl. "I should properly introduce myself. I'm Aarav. And you already know Anahata."
She hesitated before nodding. "I'm…Naira" Her voice trailed off.
"I need to ask—do you know who those men were? The ones after you last night?"
Naira's expression darkened. She shook her head. "No. I don't know them. But… last night, I tried calling my only family—my sister. But when I searched for her, I found out she's missing too."
Her voice cracked. Her eyes filled with unshed tears. "She was looking for me… and now she's gone."
