Chapter : Fire & Fury of Dominance

Rain's breaths came in quick, sharp bursts as he struggled against Nathaniel's unyielding grip. The heat of their proximity was maddening, a primal tension thickening the air between them. The crimson glow of the Blood Moon filtering through the high windows only heightened the surreal intensity of the moment.

"Is this your idea of dominance?" Rain spat, his voice laced with defiance even as his wolf quivered under the Alpha King's overpowering presence. "Pinning me to a wall like some kind of trophy?"

Nathaniel's lips curled into a smirk, though his amber eyes remained locked on Rain's, filled with a calculated hunger. "Dominance takes many forms, Rain. The question is, can you handle it?"

Rain growled low in his throat, his silver eyes flashing dangerously. His instincts screamed for him to fight, to lash out, to tear free of the man who had claimed victory over him in more ways than one. But the bond—the cursed, fiery thread that tied their souls—blazed to life between them, pulling him deeper into a battle he wasn't sure he could win.

"I don't need your games," Rain snarled, his voice trembling with restrained fury. "If you think this changes anything—"

Nathaniel leaned in closer, his towering frame pressing against Rain's, the smirk on his face softening into something darker, more intimate. "Oh, but it does. You know it, and I know it."

The Alpha King's words were maddening, each one striking a nerve in Rain's already frayed control. Yet beneath the anger, beneath the wild surge of defiance, there was something else—something far more dangerous. A pull. A craving.

Nathaniel's hand released Rain's wrists, but instead of stepping back, he placed his palm against the wall beside Rain's head, caging him in. The other hand lingered, his fingers brushing against the fabric of Rain's shirt before withdrawing.

"I don't want your submission," Nathaniel murmured, his voice low and smooth. "Not like this. I want your fight, your fire. I want you to prove you're more than a rebel with a death wish."

Rain's chest heaved as he glared up at the Alpha King, his pride battling with the inexplicable pull between them. "You'll get nothing from me but resistance, Castellan. I'd rather die than be your pawn."

Nathaniel tilted his head slightly, his amber eyes studying Rain with an intensity that sent a shiver down his spine. "A pawn? No, Rain. You're far more than that. Whether you admit it or not, the Blood Moon has marked us as equals. And that terrifies you, doesn't it?"

The accusation struck a chord Rain didn't want to acknowledge. He shoved against Nathaniel's chest, forcing the Alpha King to take a step back. The movement was fueled by anger, but the heat that surged between them didn't wane. If anything, it burned brighter.

"Equals?" Rain said, his voice low and venomous. "Don't flatter yourself. Whatever this is, it's a mistake. One the moon goddess will regret."

Nathaniel's smirk returned, though there was an edge of frustration behind it. "Mistakes don't burn this brightly, Rain."

Rain's wolf surged within him, a feral growl ripping from his throat. He didn't have to stand here and listen to this—to feel this. He turned sharply, heading for the door with every intention of putting as much distance as possible between himself and Nathaniel.

But before he could cross the threshold, Nathaniel's voice stopped him cold.

"You can run," Nathaniel said, his tone steady but with a hint of challenge. "But the bond will follow you. You can't escape it. You can't escape me."

Rain's hand gripped the doorframe, his nails biting into the wood. He didn't turn around, didn't trust himself to look back.

"You're wrong," he said quietly, though even he wasn't sure if he believed it.

Nathaniel said nothing more, and Rain forced himself to leave, each step feeling heavier than the last.

The halls of the Castellan stronghold were quiet as Rain wandered aimlessly, his thoughts a chaotic storm of anger, confusion, and something far too close to desire for his liking. The Blood Moon's power thrummed in his veins, amplifying every emotion, every sensation.

He found himself in the grand courtyard, its vast expanse bathed in the crimson light of the moon. The air was cool, but Rain barely noticed as he paced the cobblestones, his hands clenched into fists.

"You're letting him get to you."

Rain whipped around, his silver eyes narrowing as Soren stepped out from the shadows, his expression a mix of concern and determination.

"What are you doing here?" Rain demanded.

"I could ask you the same thing," Soren replied, crossing his arms. "But I think I already know. The bond is messing with your head."

Rain growled low in his throat. "I don't need a lecture, Soren."

"This isn't a lecture," Soren said firmly, stepping closer. "It's a reminder. You're stronger than this, Rain. Stronger than him. Whatever the bond is doing to you, you can fight it."

Rain's shoulders sagged slightly, the weight of his emotions pressing down on him. "It's not that simple, Soren. The bond... it's not just in my head. It's in my blood, my bones. I can feel him even when he's not near."

Soren placed a hand on Rain's shoulder, his grip firm but reassuring. "Then we'll find a way to break it. Whatever it takes."

Rain wanted to believe him, wanted to cling to the hope that there was a way out of this nightmare. But deep down, he couldn't shake the feeling that the bond was more than just a curse.

It was a tether.

And no matter how far he ran, it would always pull him back to Nathaniel.

In the shadows of the courtyard, unseen by either Rain or Soren, Nathaniel watched them with a calculating gaze. His amber eyes glowed faintly in the darkness, his expression unreadable.

Rain was right about one thing: the bond wasn't simple. But Nathaniel didn't intend to let him break it.

Not when the Blood Moon had made its choice.
