The lights dimmed. The entire house was silent—everyone fast asleep.
Suddenly—BANG! A gunshot shattered the stillness.
Julian bolted down the stairs. His eyes widened when he saw the intruder. Standing in the center of the room, gun in hand, was Kurper, the notorious leader of the Sea Lions gang.
"Everyone, downstairs! Now!" Kurper barked.
Isabella stumbled into the room, panic etched on her face.
Julian glared at Kurper. "What do you want?"
Kurper smirked. "I'm here to kill the person who stole first place in Miss Universe from my sister."
Julian narrowed his eyes. "Your sister? Who's your sister?"
Kurper sneered. "Do I look stupid? If I tell you, you'll figure out who I am."
Julian stepped forward, calm yet cold. "I'm the smartest man on Earth. I'd know just by looking at your gun, your hand, and the way you stand."
Kurper paused, then grinned. "You're right."
Without warning, Kurper aimed the gun—BANG!
The shot missed Julian's head by inches. Everyone gasped.
Rose, trembling, spoke up. "Do you want money? Land? Countries?"
Kurper chuckled internally. Wow, Miss Rose is a good actress. He shook his head. "No. I just want to kill Miss Lucy. Where is she?"
A cold voice echoed from the staircase.
"Right here."
Lucy stepped into the room, unfazed.
Kurper turned, locked eyes with her, and aimed.
BANG!
The bullet hit. Blood sprayed.
"No!" Julian roared. He lunged at Kurper, tackling him to the ground. Fists flew—Julian landed a right hook and then a vicious punch to Kurper's gut.
Grabbing the gun from the floor, Julian pointed it at Kurper's head. His face was pure rage.
"Someone sent you. Who was it?"
Kurper coughed, blood on his lips. "No one sent me. I just wanted to kill her."
Julian's eyes darkened. He lowered the gun to Kurper's leg—
BANG!
Kurper screamed in agony, collapsing to the floor.
"Cut the crap," Julian growled. "You're Kurper, leader of the Sea Lions. You don't have a sister. Now, tell me—who sent you?"
Kurper gasped, "I'm not—"
BANG!
Another shot—this time to the shoulder. Blood pooled rapidly.
"I'll kill you," Julian snarled. "Talk!"
Kurper writhed in pain. He looked around the room—desperate—his eyes finally locking onto Rose.
Rose stepped forward, pleading, "Julian! Stop! If you keep going, he'll die and you'll end up in jail!"
Julian turned his cold gaze to Rose. "Look at me, Rose. Do I look like I care? He shot my sister."
Kurper screamed as Julian shot him in the other leg.
"Fine!" Kurper wailed. "It was Rose! She—she hired me to kill Lucy!"
The room fell silent.
Rose took a step back, eyes wide in shock—or fear.
Sirens blared outside. Paramedics stormed in, lifting the barely conscious Kurper onto a stretcher. They rushed Lucy toward another ambulance, blood still staining her clothes.
Julian stood still, the gun lowering from his hand. His eyes, however, remained locked on Rose.
The damage was done.
