Meeting a Guardian

So from what the father said, supposedly 609 years have passed since the event. Or I guess, the "Quake." Most of the continents had collapsed and humanity was on the brink of extinction as well as all life on land. But by some miracle they discovered a small continent being formed during the Quake and were able to bring any person and animal they found onto this small land.

They then had about four or so eras. Couldn't really tell because the father was stuttering the entire time. But supposedly in the first era called the Wooden Era, they started off on this new continent and named this new land "The Cradle."

Which is a weird and fitting name to call a land that quite literally saved all of life on land. But during this era humanity was back to a sort of medieval era, since the last bit of technology that humanity had was used to transport humanity and all the other life onto this new land. They called this era the Wooden Era.

Then there was the Shaving Era and it was just humanity slowly going back to their old technology. The greatest thing in this era was something called World Line, which was a giant railway that was used to help transportation of things as well as the sectors being made.

Oh right, yeah the sectors. Basically humanity tried to find a governmental system to keep control of the raging groups that were just messing up the land. They basically were doing pillages, massacres, assassinations, etc. They really couldn't decide on what kind of government to have so they created the sector system. It basically split the Cradle into four sectors. Sector A majored in housing. Sector B majored in working or just business. Sector C majored in the wild area, basically all the animals they had collected had dumped them all here and allowed them to go wild. This definitely got several species to go extinct or evolve. Sector D was basically factories and whatnot. The sector was rich in mountains and resources, so that was a given. This started in the Shaving Era so I guess it sort of matched with the technology level.

Then after the Shaving Era was the Furnishing Era. Basically they would enter my era but have several things missing such as satellites and planes. They didn't make satellites since they didn't want to risk using valuable resources that could be used for other things. And the planes were because they had the railway system and believed that no other land existed, so they stopped trying to explore. But I guess at the end of that era a man was interested in exploring beyond their land and discovering lost technology from the ancient era, or my era. He was assassinated by a group who didn't want that and this sparked several groups to explore beyond their waters by using boats.

Finally we are in the current era called The Flaming Era. Supposedly this was the era in which my species came into the picture and began to attack the four sectors. I guess my species has not only a superhuman body but also abilities that made humanity fear them. But I guess something happened to humanity because slowly people were gaining powers and superhuman bodies.

This sparked a war between Shapers, my species, and Guardians, humans who had superhuman powers and strength.

...

Wait, didn't the father tell the wife to contact the Guardians?!

I stopped zoning out as I grabbed the father by his neck and raised him high in the air, "did your wife contact the Guardians! Were you stuttering and acting like an idiot just a way for you to buy some time!"

The father just grinned at me as he held onto my arm, "you bet she did. So you better start counting your days you freak."

Now, I wouldn't be pissed by that provocation if the father didn't follow that sentence with a spit on my face. I glared at the father as I tossed him against the house. I heard a crunch as his body fell limply onto the snowy floor. He isn't dead since I heard him groaning after a couple seconds, followed by the husky rushing to his side. But I couldn't care about that right now since a Guardian was on their way here.

I began to run away from the shack and run into the woods. From the stories I heard from the father, Guardians are basically the equivalent of real life superheroes but without the whole "pull your punches."

As I run in the woods I hear my instincts kicking in, telling me two things. The first is that something strong is nearby and I should run quickly. The second thing is my instinct telling me how to run faster. Supposedly if I flex my legs as they are in motion of the run, lean forward, and when my legs touch the ground I release that tension, I should be able to run faster?

So I did just that and when my feet reached the ground and I released the tension, oh boy did I spring. The ground beneath me was torn from the ground as I shot forward past the trees and bushes. It was like I had become a rocket as I quickly weaved past the branches and over the bushes. The feeling of the rushing air past my skin was smooth and the feeling of gliding across the surface was exciting.

"Gah!"

But I couldn't enjoy this excitement for long as I felt a sharp pain pierce my back and chest. Followed by my body collapsing and tumbling across the dirty ground. Mud and leaves clinged to my body as I rolled around in it before halting to a stop when my right side crashed into a tree. I groaned in pain as I clutched my ribs. I didn't know if they were broken or just in pain.

"Run"

That was the only word my instinct said to me in that moment as everything around me buzzed. The soil quaked, the air shivered, the leaves jumped, and the rocks cracked. It was not only my instinct that was telling me to run, but nature was also telling me to run.

To flee.

To act like a coward.

And I knew why as the chirping of birds disappeared. The humming of bugs vanished. The sound of the nearby stream disappeared. They all vanished as all my senses focused on the being in front of me.

A beast.
