The atmosphere at Aurora Dynamics shifted as the team's growing momentum began to collide with the shadows of Tatsumaki's retaliation. The newly formed partnership with SolarHaven gave Haruto and his team a critical advantage, but it also painted a larger target on their backs.
One morning, Haruto arrived at the workshop to find Mina pacing nervously, her laptop balanced on one arm.
"Haruto, we've got a problem," she said, her voice tight.
He set his bag down and walked over. "What's going on?"
Mina turned the laptop screen toward him. "Two of our key suppliers just canceled their contracts. No explanation, just a notice of termination. And the third supplier? They've suddenly doubled their prices."
Haruto's brow furrowed. "This is Tatsumaki's doing. They're cutting off our resources."
Reiko walked in, catching the end of the conversation. "If we can't source the materials for the Aether-2 crystals, production will grind to a halt. We need a backup plan—fast."
Haruto gathered the team around the large table in the workshop. The mood was somber but determined.
"We knew this was coming," Haruto began. "Tatsumaki is trying to choke us out. But we're not going to let them. We'll find new suppliers, even if it means looking outside Japan."
Kaoru leaned forward, her blue-streaked hair falling across her face. "What about SolarHaven? Can they help with materials?"
Aiko shook her head. "They're already under pressure for partnering with us. If we push them too far, Tatsumaki might retaliate harder."
Mina tapped her pen on the table. "What about smaller, independent suppliers? Ones Tatsumaki hasn't gotten to yet?"
Reiko nodded. "It's worth a shot. But we'll need to act fast before Tatsumaki catches wind of it."
The team split up to contact potential suppliers. Mina and Kaoru stayed in the workshop, scouring online forums and databases, while Haruto, Aiko, and Reiko hit the streets.
Haruto and Aiko visited a small materials company in Osaka. The owner, an older man named Takashi, listened intently as they explained their situation.
"I admire your fight against Tatsumaki," Takashi said. "But they've already warned us about working with you. If I supply you, my business could be ruined."
Haruto's shoulders sagged, but Aiko stepped forward, her voice steady. "Mr. Takashi, if we succeed, you won't just be supporting us—you'll be part of a movement that changes the industry. We can't promise it'll be easy, but we'll stand by you every step of the way."
Takashi hesitated, then nodded. "Alright. I'll take the risk. But you'll need to be discreet. If Tatsumaki finds out, I'll deny everything."
While the team worked on securing new suppliers, Tatsumaki escalated their attacks. Late one night, Kaoru discovered an attempt to infiltrate their systems.
"Mina, we've got another breach attempt," Kaoru called out.
Mina rushed over, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "They're targeting our new supplier contacts. If they get this information, Takashi and the others will be in danger."
"Can you stop them?" Kaoru asked.
Mina grinned, her confidence returning. "Not only can I stop them, but I can trace them back to Tatsumaki's servers. Let's see how they like being on the defensive."
Minutes later, Mina launched a counterattack, leaving a digital signature that would tie the breach attempts directly to Tatsumaki.
The following morning, Haruto called Takashi to warn him about Tatsumaki's potential retaliation. To his surprise, Takashi laughed.
"They've already sent someone to threaten me," Takashi said. "But you know what? Seeing your team's courage gave me the strength to stand up to them. They're not as invincible as they think."
Haruto felt a surge of pride. "Thank you, Takashi. Together, we'll show them what real innovation looks like."
Back at the workshop, the team celebrated their small victories. With Takashi's materials, production resumed, and the first batch of enhanced Aether-2 crystals was completed.
"This is just the beginning," Haruto said, holding up one of the crystals. "Tatsumaki may have resources, but we have something they don't—determination and people who believe in us."
Aiko smiled. "And that's what will carry us through."
