When Clove opened his eyes again he noticed he was laying on the street. Confused, he sat up and his jaw went slack when his eyes focused. He was now watching his body flying through a car windshield, his bike and the car embracing one another as metal and fiber glass danced in the air. Or to be more precise, he didn't see his body flying, it was floating in place as if time had stopped. Seeing his body showered with glass reminded Clove of a certain vampire movie that came out a while ago.
'Okay, so the last thing I remember is being on my bike, heading to my interview.'
Clove's thoughts trailed off as his eyes wandered to what used to be the Master Chief, frozen in a sort of twisted 'wheely' position.
'Am I dead?' He pondered.
It dawned on Clove as he looked back at his body. His Helmet seemed fine from the front until he walked over towards the rear passenger side of the car for a better angle. His skull had been crushed by some long pipes that were being transported inside of the car. They were taking up the length of the cabin, as well as protruding out of the rear opened window of the hatchback with some red plastic ribbon tied to the ends.
"No freaking way. I'm dead. I'm actually dead..." Clove mumbled to himself as his eyes unfocused while he entered a daze looking at his body. Shaking his head, he crouched lower to try and see the driver.
"Well, I guess I'll see if you're okay, asshole."
The driver's face and body were cushioned by the deployed airbags, as well as hidden.
'You must have been hauling ass to cause all this mess.'
He walked over to the driver side and could assume that the driver was still alive since he couldn't see any blood, and then remembered that time was stopped, so any wounds may have not had time to bleeding. Standing up, he then turned his attention away from the accident to see if anything else strange was going on.
Also seemingly frozen in time was a lady jogging up the sidewalk, her attention slightly turned towards the accident. Clove had seen this lady jogging down his street before, but never interacted with her. Looking away, he also noticed everything else seemed to be frozen as well. Birds were trapped mid flight, clouds weren't moving, but otherwise everything seemed normal. Until he realized how quiet it was. Suddenly he could feel a pull on his body and he felt extremely nauseous. Just then he was enveloped in a blinding golden light, and another moment later he was nowhere. He couldn't see or feel anything, the rest of his senses were useless as well. All he had was his conscious. He had no perception of how much time was passing. Finally, he was once again enveloped in a blinding light as he noticed his senses returned to him. Instinctively, he grabbed a hold of himself because it felt like all of his senses were on fire, he even realized he was screaming. Until everything calmed down and his skin turned from feeling as if it was on fire, to a cool soft breeze tickling his arm hairs...
'What in the actual f-'
Clove was cut off by the landscape before him. It was absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining onto sprawling grass fields, illuminating what he could only describe as 'celestial' orbs of light as they slowly bobbed around in the air. Next, he saw the towering mountains off in the distance which were cradled by a deep forest, that gave birth to a winding river, which cut through the grassland until forming a lake.
Then a glimmer caught Clove's eye. Looking to his right, he could see a dazzling city. Not one the likes he had ever seen. This one seemed straight out of a high fantasy novel as it sparkled and gleamed silver and gold, which was complimented by spires that seemed to tickle the clouds. Then another glimmer caught his eye, a second city that shared similar features, which sat adjacent to the first at the other side of this valley. And then Clove looked up and saw the sky. There were three moons. And he could see some stars even though the sun was out. He had no idea where he was, and clearly could tell he wasn't near home... or even assume he wasn't on Earth.
"What the hell is going on?" As Clove said this he was startled as a holographic screen appeared in his field of vision.
[System Starting...]
Clove read the message and waved a hand at the screen. His hand simply phased through it as it seemed to be fixed wherever he moved his eyes, yet it also appeared to be taking space in front of him.
'So it's sort of like augmented reality.' Clove stared at the message until a new one popped up.
[You have acquired the Sanguinary System]
[You may now use the 'INSPECT' skill]
[You may now use the 'HUNT' skill]
[Your bloodlust grows]
Clove read the messages as they came through. He had played tons of videogames in the past, so this was beginning to look all too familiar. He pondered for a moment as the screen infront of him slowly faded away, it seemed to vanish as he lost interest, and he noticed it came right back when he wanted to focus on it more. Playing around with it for a moment, he decided to disregard it entirely, making the screen vanish.
"Okay... er... open stats!" Clove was embarrassed as he realized he said his command a little too loud. But it seemed the system followed his word as another screen appeared in front of him.
[Clover Thompson: Level 1]
[Race: Human]
[Strength: 5] [???: 10]
[Stamina: 5] [???: 5]
[Speed: 5] [Perception: 4]
[Dexterity: 4] [Luck: 8]
Clove cocked his eyebrow as he read his stats. He hadn't seen his own full name in quite some time because he often used an alias. His name was given to him by one of the firefighters that recieved him when he was a baby. He was told that they named him 'Clover' because he was very lucky to be found in time. He received his last name from the first family that adopted him, he doesn't really remember these people since the family suffered a divorce just 3 years later.
'Nothing really seems all that impressive, what I'm curious about are the stats that are hidden from me. Not to mention that 'Luck' stat. If this is anything like a game, then it could potentially be a useful passive trait, or completely useless.'
He also noticed the system didn't require verbal commands, he could navigate everything with a thought. Though all he could do at the moment is check his stats and skills. 'Inspect' appeared to be the equivalent of hovering a cursor over an item in a videogame, it told him the name of an item, but nothing more. He confirmed this by using it on an apple that he had plucked from a nearby tree. Sitting down, he continued on while enjoying his snack.
Clove couldn't find any information within the system about what bloodlust was, just the notification that is was growing. Moving on he then checked out the 'Hunt' skill.
[HUNT lvl.1]
[Activate HUNT on a target to have higher chances of tracking the target's whereabouts. Killing targets while HUNT is active will add buffs.]
While Clove was reading the description, he could hear several footfalls next to him. He turned his head, dismissing the system screen, when he could see a wolf sniffing the air about four feet away.
