Chapter 3

"Zane!" Linda's voice rang out as soon as Zane answered the phone. He immediately tensed up and jumped to his feet, alarmed.

"What's happening, Lin? Are you alright?" He asked anxiously.

Linda's sobs grew louder, and she remained silent. Zane's worry intensified.

"Please tell me, Lin! What's going on? Is it about the baby?" He inquired, deeply concerned.

She sniffled. "I'm not sure, but I'm feeling very lightheaded, and my head is pounding, Zane."

"Hang on, I'm on my way to get you," he declared, hurrying to grab one of his jackets.

"No! You can't come now, it's Linda's fertile day. You need to stay and attempt to conceive a-"

Zane scoffed, "Come on, it's not like she'll magically get pregnant this one time." He derided. "You're the one who's expecting, and you need to be cared for. That's all that's important."

After ending the call, Zane turned to me with a stern look. "Can you see how Linda is worried about you? She was willing to endanger her life and her baby's just for you. Stop being so insecure and envious." He reprimanded, his brow furrowed.

"I'm heading to her place to check on her and take her to the pack clinic if necessary."

He was about to leave when I called out to him with a sigh.

"Zane, wait a moment."

He spun around, his eyes flashing with anger. "Selena, what is it?! I'm fed up with your constant jealousy and pettiness! I have an urgent matter to attend to," he snapped.

I didn't react to his harsh words. Instead, I pointed to one of his jackets hanging on the coat rack. "Your car keys are still in that jacket," I informed him.

Zane blinked, clearly caught off guard. Then he nodded and went to retrieve the keys from the jacket. "Thanks, Selena," he finally said with a small smile. I didn't respond.

"I love you, and I'll see you later, Selena," Zane said gently, returning to place a soft kiss on my forehead.

"I won't be long, I promise," he vowed, appearing sincere.

As soon as Zane left, numerous thoughts raced through my mind. I was exhausted and done tolerating this situation. However, I knew I couldn't make any hasty decisions; I needed to arrange things first.

I began making phone calls. First, I contacted a friend of mine in the Healer's Circle, Jason.

"Hi Jason," I greeted with a faint smile.

I could hear the warmth in his voice as he replied, "Selena, what a delightful surprise!" he exclaimed.

After exchanging pleasantries, I got straight to the point. "I'm accepting your offer to work at the Healer's Circle."

He gasped in disbelief. The Healer's Circle was the largest organization of Healers in the supernatural world. They had approached me multiple times due to my expertise in herbal medicine, but Zane had prevented me from joining because he wanted me to focus on giving him a child. Now, however, I needed to ensure I wasn't completely helpless. This was just the first step; I had other preparations to make.

By the time I finished my preparations, it was already midnight. Yet, Zane hadn't returned from Linda's place. I checked Linda's status update; she had posted another picture.

It showed a shirtless Zane sleeping on her bed, his mouth slightly open, and his chest bare. The caption read: 'Have you ever seen such a handsome Alpha? And he's all mine!'

I responded to her status with a 'thumbs up' emoji again, and she promptly deleted the image.

When I noticed she was about to reply, likely to say something else ridiculous, I quickly blocked her. I was done with both of them. I had a future to plan for.
