Chapter 6

Lance and I were both taken aback.

"Uncle, you can't be serious! You're aware that until recently, Sienna has been relentlessly pursuing me. Don't fall for her act!" Lance exclaimed heatedly.

"Lance," Howard responded calmly, "must I repeat myself?"

His large palm rested firmly on my side, its warmth seeping through my clothing and causing my pulse to quicken dramatically.

Lance was unremarkable in every aspect. The Madron family's continued relevance was solely due to Howard's clout and backing.

As he departed, his eyes locked onto mine, brimming with an unsettling blend of bitterness and resolve.

Even after Lance's exit, Howard's hand lingered at my waist. Feeling uncomfortable, I moved away and cast my eyes downward.

"I appreciate your help, Mr. Sharp," I said softly.

"There's no need for such formality between us," he replied, his voice now gentler.
