Chapter 1

After being reborn, my spouse Edward Wilson regretted prioritizing his childhood companion and lost his sanity.

In my former existence, Edward had rescued me first due to my pregnancy. By the time he returned for his longtime friend Jessica Mitchell, a snake had already struck her. Edward harbored resentment towards me ever since.

Four weeks later, I found myself bound in a hidden chamber, surrounded by countless serpents slithering on the floor. I cried out in fear, but Edward's cold voice responded from beyond the door. He declared, "Elizabeth, you wretch. You caused Jessica's death, and now you'll experience what it's like to be bitten by snakes."

Ultimately, I was attacked by hundreds of snakes, and my body was consumed. When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day of the incident.

------

I felt a piercing ache throughout my body as I slowly regained consciousness, finding myself at the base of a cliff in the woods. The soft earth beneath me had saved my life.

I worked as a guide at Alifa Mount Forest Park and was three months pregnant. I should have been resting at home, but Edward insisted I guide his childhood friend, Jessica Mitchell.

I protested, "I'm expecting a child. Why are you making me show Jessica around?"

Edward replied, "If Jessica's regular guide hadn't been unavailable, I wouldn't ask this of you, Elizabeth. Besides, you're only in your first trimester. It won't be harmful."

Furiously, I refused, "I'm not going."

"Go, or we'll divorce," Edward threatened.

I had no choice but to agree.

In my previous life, I had taken Jessica on a safe walk through the forest park. However, she took advantage of my momentary distraction and ventured into Alifa Mount's primitive forest, an area teeming with venomous creatures, noxious vapors, and dangers.

I couldn't abandon her, so I followed.

When we reached a cliff, Jessica claimed to see someone at the bottom, so I approached to look. Suddenly, she shoved me off the edge.

Jessica sneered, "Elizabeth, perish. Once you're gone, Edward will be mine."

Fortunately, the soft ground at the cliff's base spared my life.

Enduring excruciating pain, I searched for half an hour among the decomposing leaves before locating the micro-recorder.

In my past life, upon waking, I had been desperate to save myself. Only after my rescue did I realize the recorder was missing. Without it, Edward dismissed all my explanations of the truth.

I examined the device closely, relieved to find it intact.

I habitually carried the recorder during private tours as evidence in case of unexplainable events.

I now understood that Jessica had attempted to murder me in the wilderness because she had previously explored this area with her private guide. However, she overestimated her abilities. Alifa Mount's primeval forest was a maze; even after dozens of visits, one could easily get lost, especially without a guide, which explained her predicament.

After tending to my injured leg at the cliff's base, I immediately followed the route I had taken in my previous life to exit the mountain.

This time, I wanted nothing to do with Edward and wouldn't seek his help.

Reaching the familiar tree, I faced two paths. Previously, I had chosen the left one, which led me astray before I called Edward for assistance.

This time, I opted for the right path.

After walking about three-quarters of a mile, I encountered a sudden chill as white mist rose from the ground.

I quickly retreated.

The mist was poisonous; inhaling it would be fatal.

Forced back to the tree, I checked the time: past 3 PM. Alifa Mount would be dark by 5 PM. At night, the mountain was infested with dangerous creatures and extremely cold. Losing body heat could be perilous.

With no alternative, I took the left path. After about an hour, darkness fell. I climbed a tree to search for a signal. My phone battery was nearly depleted at 2%.

Luckily, as before, I reached Edward at the last moment.

"Edward, I'm in trouble, likely southeast of Alifa Mount, within 5.5 miles upstream of Snake Lake. Please help," I pleaded.

Edward responded, "How could you, an experienced Alifa Mount guide, get lost? You're cruel. How dare you lead Jessica into Alifa Mount's dangerous forest? Are you trying to kill her? I see through your act. Stop pretending to be lost. We'll settle this when you return. For now, I'm going to rescue Jessica."
