CHAPTER 7: UNEXPECTED VISITORS
After a month of intense preparation, the family's warehouse was stocked with enough supplies to last them for years. Derick and Elise had worked tirelessly to ensure that their daily necessities wouldn't be a problem in the apocalypse. With their physical strength improving daily, they felt more confident in their ability to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
Elise had been reborn, focusing on her training and leaving her past life behind. She had blocked Zane and Alexa's numbers, cutting ties with her former classmates. Derick had visited Elise and Madison's school to apply for a leave of absence, citing family reasons.
But as the days passed, Zane and Alexa grew increasingly concerned about Elise's sudden disappearance. They had tried calling and texting her, but she had ignored their attempts to reach out. Finally, Zane decided to visit Elise's home with Alexa.
"Miss, someone is looking for you," Alberta, their nanny, announced, interrupting Elise's training session.
Elise's eyes narrowed. "Who is that, Nanny?"
Alberta hesitated before responding, "Young Master Zane and Alexa."
The mention of their names sent a surge of shock and anger through Elise's veins. She felt her face heat up with rage, her eyes blazing with fury. Derick, sensing her emotions, stepped forward, his own anger brimming just below the surface.
Elise took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She hadn't sought revenge against Zane and Alexa, but now they were standing at her doorstep, uninvited.
"Don't let them in, Alberta," Elise instructed, her voice cold and detached. "I'll go and meet him in person."
Elise, we have been worried about you," Alexa said, her voice laced with fake concern as she tried to reach out to Elise. Then, pretending to be pushed by Elise, Alexa stumbled backward, her eyes welling up with crocodile tears.
"Elise, why did you push me? I was just trying to care for your wellbeing since you haven't been picking your calls," Alexa sobbed, her face contorted in a pitiful expression.
Zane's face darkened with fury as he tried to pick Alexa up. "Elise, what the hell do you think you're doing? You ghosted us, and now you're hurting Alexa? I'm so disappointed in you."
Zane's words were laced with venom, and Elise could see the malice in his eyes. "I knew you're not as good as you look, but I tried loving a spoilt brat like you. How are you as sweet and nice as Alexa?" Zane spat, his words dripping with sarcasm.
Alexa continued to sob, her eyes locked on Elise's. "Zane, don't say that about Elise. She didn't mean to hurt me. It was a mistake."
Elise watched this charade with a calm, collected expression, wondering how she had been so blind to not see that Zane and Alexa had gotten together behind her back.
Zane's face turned red with rage. "Apologize to her, or we're done!" he shouted.
Elise smiled calmly, her voice steady. "Zane, I'm done. We don't have anything together anymore, and Alexa, you too."
Alexa's eyes widened in shock, her tears momentarily forgotten. "Elise, don't be impulsive!" she exclaimed.
Zane's face twisted in anger. "I can't believe you, Elise. You're nothing but a brat."
Elise's eyes flashed with amusement. Though Zane's family network was vast, Elise's family had a more powerful background.
"Get out before I call the cops," Elise said, her voice firm.
Zane's face darkened, his eyes blazing with fury. "You'll regret this," he snarled, as he supported Alexa out of the Sunset Mansion, which belonged to Elise's family.
