18- An Unexpected Guest - Part 2

Bianca's laugh sounded mocking, and even Liam felt sorry for the half-dragon kid who had gone red-faced and looked ready to murder someone.

"Stop laughing at me. Do you think what I said was funny? If so, then this will be the last thing you find funny in your life."

The kid gave Bianca a warning, and Liam felt the magic in the dungeon suddenly surge, almost as if it was resonating with the upset dragon and was ready to do his bidding. But unlike him, Bianca seemed to have no ability to sense the surging magic around them.

"I apologize, but your name is… puffff… Anyway, there is no way I can keep calling you by that difficult name, so how about we simplify it to something easier to say. How about Asger—"

Liam grabbed Bianca's cloak to pull her back before the giant icicle could pierce her body. While saving Bianca, Liam kept his eyes on the half-dragon, who looked ready to murder someone.

"DO. NOT. CALL. ME. BY. THAT. RIDICULOUS. NICKNAME. Maybe I should take care of you first. After all, it's not as if YOU are the reason I walked out of my resting place. I am here for the man behind you. His magic feels tasty. I bet I will regain my lost power if I eat him."

Liam stiffened as soon as he heard those words.

He wanted to say that they were a joke and that he would be fine. But Liam had a feeling that the half-dragon was not joking at the moment. He was serious about devouring Liam.

Bianca must have sensed the seriousness in the air because she quickly took her stance in front of Liam once more, right before the half-dragon, half-human attacked.

The ground shook under Liam's feet, and even Bianca lost balance because of the sudden earthquake. Luckily, Liam was able to react in time and use his magic to keep his balance.

Somehow, standing on his shaky legs, Liam ran toward the forest.

"Don't run! You need to stay with me so that I can protect you!"

Bianca yelled as she tried to stand back on her feet, but roots suddenly grew around her, holding her in place and binding her body.

She tried to struggle, but getting free from these roots was going to take some time. And Liam currently did not have time to help her out. He had to protect himself from the danger that was the half-dragon.

"I will distract the dungeon boss. You go and get us some help."

Liam yelled back before he went out of the audible range. He had used his magic to convey his last message, so he was not worried about not being heard.

Once inside the forest, Liam used his magic to form the fog and hide in it. His magic was strong, likely stronger than the dragon's (especially since the dragon felt half-starved).

But even with that being the case, Liam was cautious and decided not to tempt fate by getting overconfident. He did not have enough practice with his magic to be able to take on a being like a half-dragon without a plan.

'Think! Think back at all the types of magic I know of. What can help me out? Blasting the dragon with raw power? No! My body is not ready for it. Then, maybe a contract to force the half-dragon to serve me? It can work. The dragon did tell me its name…what was it again?'

Liam asked, now regretting not paying attention. But in his defense, that dragon had a ridiculously long name that was hard to remember. How was Liam supposed to get it in one try?

[Would user like to try forming a contract with the being known as 'Azgarethorax Malfiros, the Abyssal Wyrm of Eternal Desolation'?]

The system asked, and Liam felt thankful to have it by his side. At least he now had a name to proceed.

"Heck, yes! That is the only solution that I can think of which would not get me killed immediately. So, I need to take full advantage of it."

Liam's system beeped in confirmation before it started to prepare the needed spells to cast.

Since it was the system doing all this and not Liam, it was going to take far longer, and it had a higher chance to fail as well. That was why the person in his memories did not like to rely on the system, and even Liam was going to stop once he had enough practice.

But for now, he had no choice but to avoid the half-dragon and allow the system to continue computing the magic needed.

The sound of leaves being rustled reached Liam's ears right before a loud curse was heard.

"You should come out now. If you do, then I promise to end it without much pain. You will not feel anything when I bite your head off and drink your magic."

The half-dragon spoke in an almost kind voice. But his words negated anything nice he had to say and instead turned it into horror. It made Liam's heart skip a beat when he felt the magical presence walk past his hidden space.

As soon as Liam was sure he was safe, he darted toward the other side of the forest where he had left Bianca. It was currently the safest place for him to be—

"So there you are! Did you seriously think you would be able to run from me?"

The half-dragon asked, and the chase had begun. Liam ran as fast as he could to avoid the dragon, but he was not sure if he would be able to outrun that thing.

Magic headed Liam's way, and he quickly managed to cast a shield behind him in time. The dragon stumbled as the collision of magic caused a small shockwave in the area, but Liam did not turn around to check what happened.

His goal was to reach a safe place.
