26- New work?- Part 2

"M-Miss, it will be too taxing with your heavy schedule. Don't you have the guild work to do and dungeons to go into? There is no need to add a part-time job to your list—"

"I told you that it is fine. Do you not want me to work for you? If so, then give me a reason. I am not irresponsible enough to try and butt into a place that does not need me."

The argument went back and forth for a while.

Liam had a feeling that Lucas was doing his best not to accidentally trigger Aria and make her angry. But at the same time, he was doing his best to tell her that she was not wanted at his business.

And Aria was either ignoring him purposely, or she was dense enough to not even realize what Lucas was saying.

Somehow, Liam had a feeling that it was the second case, and he could only blink as he watched the pair argue for over ten minutes before Lucas had to give in.

Aria was beginning to get aggressive, and her magic was starting to rattle. If this continued, then most of the fragile products inside the shop wouldn't last.

Liam hated to get involved in these conflicts, but he decided to help Lucas out. After all, that man was going to be Liam's boss, and there was no harm in trying to leave a better impression on him.

"Miss Aria, how about you come back tomorrow after thinking about joining this place as staff a little more? You might not find the idea of serving people as alluring in a few hours."

Liam placed a hand on the agitated female's shoulder before he matched his magical wavelength to hers and calmed her magic down. It was something he had learned recently but had practiced immensely to master his control.

His magic forced Aria's down, and she blinked as she suddenly felt calm and less enraged. It also seemed like she was more willing to listen and hear him out.

"Fine. I guess I will think about it some more and come back tomorrow."

The female finally agreed before she left the shop. Her sudden departure made the shopkeeper stunned, and Liam also felt like he had a better understanding of Aria as a character.

As soon as Liam was alone with the shopkeeper, he felt Lucas grab his arm before patting him on the back with an expression full of wonder.

"Mister, you are instantly hired. Start working right now and keep up the good work. If you can deal with Aria Duskwood, then you are more than welcome to work here."

The boss looked more than happy to have Liam on his staff, and Liam had a feeling that he was signing himself up for more trouble.

'Well, I will deal with the situation when it occurs. For now, I should feel happy that I finally have a stable job once more.'

That was how Liam made one of the worst decisions of his life—to work in a Warden's store.

He was just getting ready to head inside and sign his contract when the door opened, and Aria Duskwood walked back inside.

The shopkeeper sighed in annoyance, while the female just looked confused about how she ended up coming back here.

"Miss Duskwood, are you lost? Would you like someone to help you find your way to a cab?"

Lucas asked as he rubbed his forehead. He sounded serious when he offered to help, but Aria looked embarrassed and angry at the suggestion.

"H-Huh? What do you mean, you will help me out? I came back here because I wanted to, not because I got lost or anything. I—actually, I forgot that I came here to buy s-something. Now, where is it…ah yes, this! I need to buy this."

Aria picked up a small bottle of cream, and Lucas looked surprised to see her pick it before he recalled what kind of person Aria was.

Even Liam did not doubt that she came back because she had gotten lost on the way, but he kept his words to himself.

"Of course, miss. Let me ring you up for an anti-aging potion. Please use it in moderation if you care about your skin."

Aria flushed red once she heard what she picked, but she quickly packed it up and started to leave. Liam felt sorry for her, and so did Lucas.

But unlike Liam, Lucas decided to do something about it. He activated a magic rune before sighing in relief.

"This rune will make sure the lady customer reaches her destination without fail. Ugh, how is my luck so bad? Liam, as your new boss, I am giving you the first order. Whenever you see that lady in our shop, make sure you keep an eye on her. A disaster is bound to happen if she is here."

Lucas told Liam, and somehow, it seemed as if he was talking from experience.

Still, it was not for Liam to worry about since he was going to avoid other high-ranking magicians from now on.

______

"I am back…"

Liam declared before he threw his body on the couch and closed his eyes. He felt drained and exhausted after the long day's shift. And he had only worked 3 hours today.

"Someone, kill me now. I don't think I can take a 12-hour shift every day."

Liam moaned as he regretted his life choices…not that he would make a different one if he was given a chance to.

The amount of money he was being paid to work his shift was more than enough to keep him motivated, but that did not mean he would not complain.

To complain about one's work and not be satisfied with it was human nature, and Liam was only human.

"You want to die? That can be arranged. Just let me suck you dry—"

Of course, Liam meant his words in a joking manner, but there was a half-dragon who decided to take them seriously.
